2011 has been unbelieveable with deadly tornados and it's already the deadliest nationwide since 1953. Joplin,Missouri was slammed last night with one touching down leaving a 6 mile long and 1/2 mile wide path of destruction. Death total so far is 116 !!!! I've been sick about this all day. We do have a member from jigcraft who lives there and I'm praying for him and his friends and family. Mother nature has been a real bitch, lately.

I don't ever remember this many people being killed during tornadoes. Bad thing is the season is really just starting. Just keep the prayers coming, because the tornadoes sure arn't going to stop.

...We do have a member from jigcraft who lives there ...

Yes - Crappiecripplerjigs is from Joplin, i sent him a PM early this morning after i saw the news footage. I DID hear back from him while he was at work today... said he was OK but he may not be able to get on the net from home, said his power was out as the tornado went through only 2 blocks to the south of him!

Those pictures i have been seeing are very troubling. Looks like a bomb went off.... just nothing left intact in its path.

Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers. We've all seen the destruction these things can do on television but until you've seen it first hand you don't give much thought to it. We are very fortunate to only have a tree uprooted and be without power. The amount of twisted metal, shingles, splintered wood, insulation, and various other debris scattered about our yard is unbelievable. When we look up the street there is bare landscape. Joplin is also very fortunate to have so many volunteers from counties far away who rushed to our aid. The non-stop emergency vehicles, helicopters, search and rescue teams, and National Guard are unreal.

We got hit here in MN as well - nothing like Joplin - but hits none the less.

One tornado started in Cresco Ia - and traveled 56 miles on the ground (for 28 minutes), and then hit Harmony MN, which is about 30 miles S of where I live (SE corner of MN).

The Twin Cities got hit as well - St Louis Park, N Minneapolis, and Fridley. N Minneapolis hits close to home, as it hit the neighborhood we used to live in.

Prayers said for all victims.

Uncle Grump - I did see those went through up your way but couldn't remember for sure your (or Jiggin Joe's) location.... i almost sent you a both a PM as well. Glad to hear all is well for you.

Toadfrog - Same as what i just wrote above! I knew you were in OK., just unsure where in the state. Thank you for posting.

OKSTATEjiggy (Jiggy) was in Stillwater at one time i think and heard one was headed that way.... pretty sure he has moved on though.

I must agree this weather lately has been for the birds, and it seems like across the country it has been that way. :-/ It has been the wettest spring i can remember for a long time in my area. There was flodding here early spring and now it dumps rain once or twice a week and the farmers can't even get into their fields. They only have a short time before they loose out on insurance for planting field corn and many are nearly going to be forced to plant only soybeans with-out that safety net. If that happens - soy prices bottom out and corn skyrockets....... scared to think what that means at the grocery store. :( I never did agree with the mantra of 'global warming' but think i am coming to realize 'climate change' as a whole.

Storms and more torados went through our area a little while ago. Reports of hail up to the size of softballs but what we got was the size of golf balls or slightly larger. They were big enough that my truck and my wife's new 2011 Mustang sustained hail damage. I got some souveniers in the freezer now. While it was all going down it sounded like a football game was going on up on the roof.
