I was curious what you use to cut your own zonkers. I have cut a few and its tedious to me. I will post a vid of what i found that looks it will work if i dont cut my fingers off.

I'll look at some of the fly boards, the guys have come up with some that work really good. Never tried it myself.

Post more later when/if I find somthing.

I usually sign some of my projects in blood . But awkward as I am I'd probably need a transfusion after a while . I use a hook tip blade for carpets clamped in a small vise . Then I pull the hide towards me cutting single strips . So far I haven't even come near severing an artery . That made nice straight cuts , but whew I'd be sweating bullets.

I have seen that video before. Impressive tool - looks like it could be straight out of a Nightmare on Elm St. movie. That would be a very good way to get nice straight cuts.

Posted this awhile back, don't think you saw it - Cut Your Own Zonkers - it is tedious work. I usually cut half a skin at one time and that will last a long time. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is to have a VERY sharp blade and secondly is to not push down too hard. You only want enough pressure to just barely cut through the hide so you don't cut up the hair on the other side. If you keep it stretched out with your fingers as you cut, it helps to let the blade do its work a little easier too.

Now....... Where did you find a BLACK skin - a local craft shop or online??? My craft stores have white, natural gray and a ginger'ish color. Some of them are good but last i was in there all that they had was very thick skinned.

Thanks Russ, I'll try your method, I was using tacks on a piece of plywood. Toad frog had some revenge fox, and revenge rabbit. Might want to ping him, to see if any more available.

WOW!!! I could hardly watch that.. Looks to be the wrong tool for the job unless you make something to cap the top of the blades.
I like the box knife Russ.

That tool would be alot safer if single edge blades were used instead of double edge.
