Hit the lake this afternoon with temps at 65 degrees and the water was up to 53 stained. I tied some 1/32 wool jigs last night to try today while longlining. I pulled a 1/16 oz tied jig on the bottom and 2' up the line tied on the 1/32 oz wool jigs. Most of the day I fished in 30' depths with my jigs running right at 15' deep and the bottom jigs were the ticket but around 5:00 the fish moved up in the water column and started hitting the 1/32 wool jigs with a #6 sickle hook. Awesome to catch big fish on a little jig . On the last turn I made I thought I got a line hung up in an under water tree but o man when the fish started fighting it was on! Got him to the top and he was a big slab crappie. Had two other CDC members fishing close to my boat so they got to be in on this catch and took pics for me. 17 1/4'' black crappie weigh-in was 3 pound 1 oz. My best crappie by 9 oz. Been crappie fishing all my life for one of these. It will go on the wall
Here are a few of the fish caught and a livewell shot. Awesome winter day of fishing in S.C. before the rains get here tomorrow.
