I found some Trokar jig hooks reasonably priced so picked up some 4/0's and poured some on these 3/16 Herring underspins. Used some new eyes that I got in as well. I have been having good success with craft hair jigs with the warmer than normal winter we've been having so decided to make these up using several colors of craft hair and flash, then painted up some blades. Those do look good...... not sure which i would tie on first. All 3 combos are appealing. Minnow colors, bluegill colors and the the pearl/chart that i just know is a killer. Are you adding something extra to the pearl color to get all the glitter reflection?

I've been using ultra fine .004 glitters and another fine powder called Liquid Diamonds from pickapolish.com. I might heat and dip a blade several times to get the finish I'm looking for. I got the Trokars for $7.99 for a 15 pack from Tackle Warehouse. I had ordered more but they are back ordered. I placed another order and they had another Trokar jig hook available so ordered some of those. Price comes out to a little over 50 cents each but still better than a buck for a hook, just won't go that high for a hook. They certainly look sharp, you can see the three cutting edges on each hook.

I'd tie the middle ones on first. Those are smokin hot buddy. I been pouring an Owner 5304 deep throat in my 60 degree molds occasionally. I'm not sure if they have them in a 90 degree. But, these hooks are phenomenal and run in the .35 - 40 cent range. One of my buddies that fishes it, has one going 3 years strong and never sharpened it and uses it all the time. I have poured the Trokars, but have a hard time selling them due to cost and comparison to other hooks. I suspect having the EC name attached to it hurts it. Even buying them in bulk. But you did get a good deal on those.

Owner's has 90 degree hooks, not in the 5304. Usually get the 5318 but broke a 2/0 at the bend on a big fish last fall. Hook broke before the 6lb. line did so I've been using Gami's for my big fish baits with Mustads as my next choice. The 5304 is a heavier duty hook than the 5318. I'm always looking at deals on hooks on ebay and occasionally I find one, never see them with Trokar though.

The largest hooks I've used here in NE have been 2/0, what species in what size would you target with 4/0?

Do larger hooks offer some kind of functional advantage?

The 4/0 hooks are primarily for bass or walleye, but I hope to find some crappie big enough to eat these. Had a 6 inch crappie commit suicide today by swallowing a 1/0 jig hook. Unbelievable how big of a bait crappie can get in their mouth.

I've hooked several big bluegills over the years on a 3/0 hook on a spinnerbait.

I caught a couple big crappie on 4" twister tails targeting walleye couple yrs back on a early fall evening
wouldn't suprise me if they hit one of these...
