My annual vacation target this year is Boysen Reservoir WY. At 35,000 acres more than enuf to keep me bizzy for weeks even fishing from before dawn to after dusk. However, the recommended consumption of no more than 1 crappie over 12" or walleye over 20" per MONTH and NONE for preggers & kids seems to indicate a significant mercury issue. Was wondering how y'all consider advisories?

Ive had a tough one with this one HAwn...My home lake has been under one for the last 2 years, almost identical.. no more than 2- 8 oz portions per month recommended. All species other than channel cat.

However they based the decision on a 2008 survey, but waited 3 years to tell us ???? I have slowed down on how much I keep and eat from there, but I do partake in more than the 16 oz.

I follow the advisories for my local rivers, but the bigger concern in my area is chems. from fertilizer. However, there is a little old lady that drives her motorized wheelchair over along the small river (Honey Creek) to fish very frequently. It runs right beside the reservoir of my local town. She catches bullhead after bullhead and tosses them in the basket on the front of her chair. Drives back home and cleans them herself. She says they are delicious. Asked her once if she was worried about the nasty chemicals in the water....... she laughed pretty good and said she has been eating bullhead out of that creek ever since she was a child. She is over 80 years young and still kicking.

Could be wrong, but aren't the Mercury advisories for predator fish that are large? If you would keep the smaller fish you might avoid the build up of Merc. in the flesh??

Yep they tell us not to eat fish yet they tell us to put those silly curly q light bulbs in our houses that contaminate more mercury than all the fish that we consume. Now that is smart really smart. It's one thing to be stupid just don't work at it. Eat all you want and use incandescent light bulbs. That way you will get the same amount of heavy metals. You will enjoy it more and have more fun. We have started to breed a group of stupid people that are about ready for the Darwin Awards. Stupid people never cease to amaze me.

AF that little old lady smokes Camel straights and drinks a pint of bourbon every day and has since her 40's. She will live to be a hundred and hasn't seen a doctor in 20 years. Go figure.
