Never felt like I needed one but Sunday am going to go get one. Incident last year changed my mind. Was out and was going to stay all night. But fish were anything but co-operative and then the weather decided to make things just a tad more miserable.

Figured well I know what everything is trying to tell me and motored in to where I had launched. It is a public ramp and I have never had any problem there what so ever. Get in the Pilot and back up to retrieve boat.
Get in boat and run it up on trailer. Then a car pulls in and I note on my watch its about 2 AM.

Four guys get out of their car and walk down my rig just as I am getting out of boat. I get in Pilot and pull rig out of water. I get out to batten everything down. These guys walk up to me. I now stop to think " Holy Chit " this crew could be up to no good. As it was they were just curious to see if I had done any good.

On the drive home I thought long and hard what I would have done if they had been up to no good. I am a rather large individual but old age has caught up with me. Although I have been a hunter and shooter most of my life. After Vietnam I never wanted to fire a weapon in anger again.

As the grim reaper has taken most of my fishing partners. I often go alone and lots of times at night. So I figured concealed carry is about my only option. What I hope most of all is that I will never have to use it.

What is kind of funny is some of the people I know. When I tell them I am going to a gun class. They remark that's kind of like teaching a duck to swim ain't it.

Out here...
You wont regret getting it, and I hope you never need it either. Personally, I feel like it is my responsibility to defend myself and my family. We have laws in place so we can co-exist as a race, but unfortunately there are those who take advantage of the situation. In most cases help arrives after the fact and there are just a couple of statistics you will be counted in. There are those who say don't hang out in the place where most of the stuff happens, and I/we don't. But sometimes it knocks on the door.
We will argue amongst ourselves over the right to keep and bear till the cows come home. Me? I live about two huneert miles from one of the most volatile borders in the world, so I'm gonna trust in the Lord, but keep my powder dry. And there is another saying here... Come and take it!

A lot of us feel like You do ... More people today and the more people the more chances of something happening .. and the economic situation does not help either.

With HI restrictive laws only cops & thugs CC. Just in case tho, what is the best method and body position to CC both from a tactical and comfort point of view?

Also, if its not being inappropriate on our forum, any recommendations on preferred tools?

Hawn and perhaps other that may be inclined-did a lot of studying on this here are some of the facts.

1. The vast majority of incidents in which a weapon had to be used. Occurred from 1-6 feet.
2. Almost ALL the incidents were over within 3 seconds.
3. 74% of rounds fired in these incidents MISS. Keep in mind this figure includes well trained law enforcement officers.

My conclusions from above data and being in combat before.
1. Weapon should be ultra-reliable
2. Caliber should be what the user can easily control on recoil. Less recoil also allow for an accurate follow up shot if necessary.
3. Weapon should me light weight and comfortable to wear. Remember one is going to be wearing it a lot more than actually using it. Thank God that statistics still are great that you will never have to use.
4. I am probably no more or less macho than average guy. But leave all MACHO crap out of your selection.
5. Train and practice with your selection. Use both hands as in actual incident you may not have choice of preferred hand. Various positions same reason. When you can hit a 9 inch pie plate every time at 15 yards you are getting to where you need to be.

All this led me to a lightweight 38 special 5 shot revolver. With 2 inch barrel and lightweight frame. Longer barrels increase the chance of someone taking it away from you. Longer barrels provide better leverage for attacker to pry gun out of your hands. I will use light loads no +p loads needed or wanted. Others may have different choices but this is what fits me.

Be aware that your mind is going to have to be trained also. Even trained police and armed forces throughout history are reluctant to take human life. Some criminals know this and do not fear a drawn gun. They will fear it once it is used but then it is too late. Finally be aware that if you ever do have to use your weapon it is going to change your life. None of the changes are going to be good ones.

Good for you papaP. I just got a s&w 9mm shield. Lovin it for CC. Very slim but still feels good in large hands. If someone is going to carry a gun they need to practice shoot it OFTEN!

My next purchase will be a G35.

I think everyone should arm their self, we never know what or where things my happen. Here we have more and more armed robberies. I carry a Kel-tec P-11 9mm and at times carry a small 22 auto. Finding a the right place to carry will be up to where you feel it fits best. I carry mine between my right side and my spine, just fits right for me. I have just ordered from the NRA a combo pistol/phone holster, very interested to seeing it. I also have the Sneaky Pete holster, a little big but does the job of concealing. I have the holster that goes on the belt and the pistol slides into it, I like these because it hold the pistol very close to your side. Winter time you have no trouble concealing but in the summer it is hard to do. Here in SC if you are hunting or fishing you can carry
opened.

Realize if you get a carry permit, you're on record. Not a bad thing, but don't be surprised if you get pulled over for speeding and am looking down the business end of a hand gun from the cop getting asked "Where's your weapon?".

Personally, I believe everyone should open carry.

Been pulled over a few times, and never asked that. I always present my chl however.
I am pretty sure when they pull your data, they know you have a CHL
, but that is typically a good guy sign in my opinion.

I fish quite a bit alone, from he shore and at night. Only once did i ever feel threatened by people out fishing...... and it was by a group who did not speak English very well. I believe they attempted to ask if i was having any luck, but was overwhelmed with several individuals staring at me and not having a clue what they were saying. I bet it showed on my face too!

After that incident, i do tend to get the willies when i see people coming towards me. Never actually had any problems though. Have certainly seen my share of crazies. I now carry a tire iron..... openly. haha! Some day, i may breakdown and get a CC.
