I see a lot of guys talking about clear, but can't seem to find it. What exactly are you referring to and where do I buy it at? I have 4 jars of pro-tec and that will get me started. We also have a harbor freight close by, and I see they sell powder cheap, so I may check them out.

Does HF carry this clear?

I know I am an idiot, but I will catch on.

Out here...
Crazy Angler has a clear called baitfish, that has some glitter mixed in. Radtexan can hook you up with a company in Lubbock that sales it by the pound, no glitter...

Do you guys mix the clear with your regular colors? What's the purpose? What ratio do you mix it? Thanks

I do not use it anymore as filler (to make it go further) added to solid opaque colors because i don't want to loose the opacity of the color. If you mix it 50/50, you potentially let 50% of the color of the lead 'bleed' through the color. Not a big deal if the heads are shiny or base coated in white, but would think it would darken some colors if an oxidized head was used. I know it can be done, but i want my solid colors solid.

You can create an 'almost' candy or transparent color if you mix a ratio with a LOT of clear to just a pinch of color. Depends on the solid color used (and brand) but some you can seen the tiny dots of color. They do not look the same a the true candy or transparent colors.

Also use a lot of clear for glitter/flake and mica powder mixes.

Initially we used clear to "loosen" up stubborn paint in the powder cups. Don't use fluid beds anymore so now we use it to thin down a paint to maximize weight and to add gloss to a dull paint.
Start by adding small amounts to get you desired effect. Helps to write/take notes - but that usually doesn't last....LOL.

I just have everything delivered to my work and no one is the wiser. Just be careful, coming through the door with a Jann's Netcraft box can be a dead give away and get you in more trouble.
