That's great LedHed. I'm sure John would be very proud.

How do you get your mallard flank to lie so flat? Every feather I have is shaped like a "C". What I have been doing is tying two feathers together to flatten them. Maybe I need to cut the stems out of them, I haven't tried that.

Thnx SV

Try pinching the feather between your forefinger and thumb. Place your thumb nail along the quill opposite the curl of the feather. Pinch and pull and it should straighten the feather. I don’t use the flanks much and fish them less. JJ1 hooked me up with a bunch – trying new stuff with them.

From the looks of these you should use the flanks more and fish them as well. Great combination !!!!! Love the little football/duck/dubbing combo. Truly a special jig that will nail you some big gills. I can picture a 2lber sucking it in right now. PS I like the Indian head penny as well. Coin collecting is my other hobby, can get expensive though. Price of silver is going up.

Like the combo as well. This style really nails the jumbo Redear out here. Don’t know how you can afford both - tying and collecting!?!?!

RD
Thnx again. Dubbing really gets overlooked – great for the ultra lite stuff.

This pattern is for dragging around the bottom. Did the drab colors to mimic larva and crustaceans. The football style keeps the hook barb orientation up (like the bass big brother). Think it reduces snags and increases the hook up ratio.

Just started using the FB jig, in the 1/32nd weight this season and we got a lot of big BG and RE. The football combination with the sickle is a real tool for bottom feeding panfish – especially for the big boys.
