Since Ohio is going thru another warm winter and has put a severe cramp in my ice fishing hopes. I have been busy playing with the chrominids and Reds wool jigs.

Upon studying the chrominids a little closer I discovered that the actual body of the fly is really thin. So on the newer ones I just covered the hook with thin thread and glazed with Clear Cure Goo Hydra. Also used beads , feathers and chenille to give a head on some.

Red's wools who Jiggerjohn has shared a ton of info on has really got my brain cells to work extra hard.I have tied some of his original pattern as close to his as possible. These that I have taken a pic of. I have stretched the original idea of Red's. I made up some for ice fishing by using a bead head. These are really small on purpose. They are tied on a 10# jig hook. Given a little color by markers then clear coated with the Hydra. The next size up are tied on 1/64 and 1/32 heads same formula. The bigger ones in the upper lefthand corner are 1/8 . Heads are fancier than what Red uses but I just had to try them.

I plan on buying some jigs off of Red to fish with this year. If my replicas are 1/2 as effective as Red's originals I will be one happy camper.
