BK - there are cheap rotary vises out there "cheap" being the key word. They don't last long. I see alot of the guys here going with a Peak vise and truthfully I've looked at it too. I don't use a rotary vise - have a Dyna-King Kingfisher. I'm really kicking myself as I could have had one of the Peaks with the nice base and bobbin holder for $100 on one of my fly tying boards but at the time I couldn't afford it.

Maybe I worded it wrong. Don't need nor do I want another cheap, junk, vise. Lol

I should have said, " Does anyone have a good deal on a rotary vise "

I think that this gentleman has a good deal on a new rotary vise.

JWTrout

The vise is a Griffin Odyssey Spider for $67.80. Your total cost, shipped, would be $76.75.

If you can do better, please go for it. ;)

I bought my Griffin Vise from John over 8 years ago and it's still going strong. Have replaced an o-ring on it and added a rotating arm to it. My model is a Griffin Superior 3ARP. It's my favorite vise (Yes, I do like it somewhat better than my Dyna-King).

If you decide to attempt to buy used, be sure to see photographs of the vise jaws. Photos should show the jaws inside and out. Look for grooves where there shouldn't be any and chips to machine-grooved areas in the jaws. Chips to the outer jaws shouldn't affect performance, but if you care somewhat about aesthetics... :(

Griffin makes a great product but that tighten a screw always bothered me. When I tried it at my fly tying class, tying on it just didn't feel comfortable.

Pup - which DK rotary you tying on?? I'd love a Barracuda but not for $400!!!!!!!!!!

FM,

Mine is their Barracuda model. It's a superior holder of hooks that are extremely large or small. Built like a tank too.

Griffin vises hold hooks securely. They also hold other materials firmly and without damage to them. To me, this is their greatest selling point.

Have to agree on the Griffin if you can find one in your price range. I tie on an Odyssey, mine has Cam jaws, and i love it.... if i was to upgrade from here it would probably be another Griffin.

Going to put a thread up in the tools/material board and sticky it with a good link........
