Just finished up a swap on my state fishing forum. The theme was 'Cheap Date' and the idea was to use as much material from dollar type stores and craft shops. This was my entry........

#4 Mustad 3366 (Jann's Netcraft)
Keel: Pearl & Chrome Seed Beeds (craft shop)
Body: Wool Roving Doll Hair (craft shop)
Head: Cat Toy Fur (Dollar General
Flash: Enchant Holo. Thread (Pat Catan's)
More Flash: Green, Blue & Red Satin Fibers (Dollar General)

Here is my table full of the junk. I did not use the red Christmas garland or the green satin gift bag.......

The Enchant Holographic Thread stuff is very cool. Got a ball of it from Pat Catans for about $5 and it will last me 2 lifetimes. I made up a hank for the swap host..... estimated about 120' worth of material and can not even tell i took any away from the original ball. Just have to pick out the little flower petals. :D

The green/blue satin fibers are from the ribbon and red satin is from the red gift bag under the green bag. This was fun...... now it is time to go drown our cheap dates.

Was looking up the holo thread, and the only thing I found was the ohio board thread talking about killing Santa, some talk about baster and balls. I guess it is Ohio. ;)

Thanks for the comments all. Kind of an odd way to get to a baitfish pattern, but there is always more than one way to skin a cat.................. toy.

LedHed - The keel was made by tying a piece of 8lb mono on the shank very first thing and laying out the back. Once all the wool rove body and flash is on, string the beads (there are actually 4 there, 1 is hidden in the roving) on the mono and point it up towards the front and lock it in. Then tied in the 'wool head' from the cat toy fibers so it all got layered back a bit. Don't pull the keel completely tight..... if you leave some wiggle room then the beads can move and click to give some sound/vibration. The keel works perfect to keep the hook point riding upright and out of snags.

RadTexan - I actually called that material by the wrong name in this thread. It is Premier Yarn Enchant - Dewdrop is the actual color. It has a pretty amazing holographic color variation but leans towards blue/green a little more. Can not get a picture of how good it looks in hand. I posted a while back when i first bought it and have been using it more and more. Original thread: Trip to the craft store. Oh, and yes..... you can blame Ohio for poor Santa loosing his beard.
