Lucked out and got it on sale for under $15 coupla weeks ago. Was too bizzy chasing waves and fair maidens back in '78 to own a TV, so missed the original televise. The dvd version looks excellent on our dome screen clunker. Outstanding cast, scenery, and 20 hours of unfolding story make this a 5 star American classic.
Edit: read the bottom end 3 stars or less reviews on Amazon and apparently some scenes were cut! I didn't notice as this is my first viewing.
