I am going to be in the market for a new digital camera. What would be your recommendations for a mid range price camera good for taking pictures of jigs and the like as well as some other hobby photography? One that is not too complicated to operate would be a plus as well. Thanks

Any of the new point and shoots work well high pix count as well and they don't cost that much any more but if you are taking it fishing find a water proof one.

Again not that expensive anymore .... You know who I am talking too when I say that

I bought a waterproof camera on ebay for $40, took some cool pics of the grandkids underwater in the pool. Turned out suprisingly well for the price which is a lot less than my Canon. Taking it fishing in the morning.

I use an old Kodak. Pretty much any Point & Shoot camera will work good. Computer screen resolution is only 72 DPI so even the low end MegaPixel cameras work fine for showing picts on a computer...... the higher MegaPixel cameras produce better PRINTED picts at large sizes. I always us the highest quality setting in the camera, never know when you might get that 'money' shot. ;)

Make sure the camera has a Macro function for taking close-up pictures. I would also get one with a 3/10 second timer for hands free pictures.

Been looking for a small tripod for the Kodak I have, but haven't turned one up yet at the flea market. Looked at getting a new cell with a built in cam but ain't no way I'm paying $200 bucks for a damned phone!!!!!!!! I wouldn't use half the stuff on it anyway LOL!!!!!!

Well for $200 bucks you can get a pretty good camera that has a lot of bells and whistles maybe even 2 or 3 of them if you look in all the right places, flea markets unless you are very lucky or perhaps the first at the scene of the crime your taking your chances and not likely to find anything worth the money they are asking. Lets face it you get what you pay for in todays world, you want cheap you get cheap, if you want good you pay for good money.

What Do I Got well

2 Sony Cyber Shots Point and Shoot 1-5MP the other 7MP

The only other one I have is a Nikon D90

All I am saying is you can go into Best Buy, Slave Labor Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Sams Club or any other place like that and just about any camera you pick up can do what you are looking for a camera to do. Most all have zoom and macro capabilities as well as short movie making capabilities and allot more. Many are even waterproof as well. It is like a fishing rod or reel sure you ask what you guys think is good which is fine. But you still need to make the decision on what feels right for you and in order to do that you have to have it in your hand. There is nothing more disappointing than going with OTHERS recommendations and buying something without physically seeing, holding and using it only to find out it is not what you really wanted.

With the technology of today you can pick up a camera that can take very good pictures and allot more starting at about $40 and it will probably do everything that you want it too do.....

Unless you are getting information from someone that has recently bought a newer model camera all you are going to get from anyone is about something that has come and gone and has been replaced with new and better stuff.

Bottom line you get what you pay for..... but who am I to say anything or give an opinion on anything in here.... hell i am surprised you even replied to my post, nothing personal or anything like that, just surprised not many do... :icon14::icon14::icon14::icon14:

And you can take that to the bank..... just my 2 cents

Bought a Olympus TG-610 in Jan after drowning my other camera while trout fishing. Lot of bells, doorbells, church-bells!! LOL Want something that would hold up to all my fishing and wanted something that would take good close-ups shots. Got it on the Best Buy web on sale for 198.00. A little more than I was looking to spend but wow it takes some very nice pics.

Seen a little bug 1/4'' long on one of the post balls on my deck and the bug was one I had not seen before so I got out the camera and took some pics of it. WOW what details in the picture and to beat all things the bug was eating a very very small bug! Here are the pics. Just a camera to look at..

Same with me - we have 2 different models of Kodaks and never had a problem as long as you use name brand batteries - generic dollar store batteries will not even make it turn on. One i take fishing has a long lanyard and hang it around my neck out wading. It is a larger style than my wifes and i like the bigger one better. Has somewhat of a hand-hold on the side and much larger buttons than the other..... prefer the larger buttons and knobs once the fish slime is on hands. ;)

Stump - that is a cool looking bug!
