Brown Adams

I had some time to kill today while waiting on some jigheads to bake so I pulled out some wool I found at Michaels. I had six different colors of wool I was mixing and thoughts I would end up with a red color but it came out to a nice brownest color. Tied this one while I had a little time. LOL this fly tying is as bad as tying jigs!

Hook- #8
Thread- 140 denier brown
Tail- turkey tail biots
Body- custom mixed wool dubbing
Rib- copper wire
Hackle- brown

A size #8. Holy crap! Your mayflies must be on steriods!! I only wish my hatches were a size #8 in North Central PA. That fly is bigger than most hummingbirds at my feeder!

Stump nice tie but where's the wings :LOL Now if you can do it on a #8 try it on a size 12. or smaller LOL

I been trying on 12 and 14 but ran out of hooks. I'm waiting on an hook order to come in.
JJ that fly 1 1/8'' total and is a little smaller than our mayflies as the mayflies here are closer to 2''. You should see our skeeters!!!!

Fatman... I omit all upright wings on my mayflies. The fish don't see the wings from "looking" up. Saves me the hassle of screwing around with uprights... now if it was a parachute post? I'd put it in!!! Love fishing a parachute in the film.

Down to about a 16 I'll put wings on. Being really DUMB one time tried to tie one on a 22, might have worked if I had a really hugh microscope so I could see it LOL.

Thanks for the info Joe. I spend most of my time tying jigs but lately have become lost for hours tying flies. I love to trout fish and catching them on your own flies just adds to the time on the trout river.

You fly guys get the utmost respect from me. There's thouuuuusands of diff patterns, materials and techniques. And everything is so ittle bitty.

Have you started building your own rods yet? That's a kick too.

LOL I have started rebuilding some old bamboo rods!!! It is fun to see them change looks from old to new. I have one ready for the finish and just got to find time to do it.
Love the feel of the bamboo rods as each has a different feel and look forward to fishing with one soon. Can't wait to work a fly with the bamboo, I get all excited just thinking about how great it will be pulling in a trout on one of the light weight 9' rods.
