These jigs by Jiggerjohn have been on my backburner for awhile. Seen somebody post that they were having a low hook up to bite ratio.
Tied one more or less conventionally then tied one on a long shank jig hook. Gives a little more room for error. As I quickly found out making sure that the little prop turns can be a headache. My first few ties I had to cut off and redo.
Anyway for what its worth the long shank hook allows for better clearance between hook point and prop. Can't say it will increase hook up ratio but logic says it would help. Much like a longer shank treble works better on a jigging rap.
Pic shows difference between standard jig with boolie and the long shank with boolie. After field testing both of them will be better to say then. Unless Jiggerjohn has already experimented along this line.
After tank testing I see why these style jigs are effective. The flash was sure attention getting.
Longer shank allowed me to use two beads to sandwich prop betweeen. The standard shank only allowed one for any decent hook clearance.
Another question ran thru my head. If you ties a woolie on the back of a boolie. And promptly named it a woolie-boolie. Would Sam the Sham and his group have royalty rights ? Heh-heh.
After tank testing I can see why these would be effective. The extra flash given off by little prop sure grabs your attention
