Bluegill Spin Flies Maybe??

Another Friday night is upon us and that means Dad gets to play in the shop and improvise with a cold barley pop!:beat-up: I have many fly hooks in different sizes and since I am helpless when tying flies, I had a brainstorm. Created the "Fly Spinster". I'm thinking bluegill on an ultra light rig with a small cork, or maybe even a flyrod for fooling a few slabs. Blade placement is a big question mark. Might want to spin in a circle upon retrieve. Have to make a run to Lost Creek and see what happens! Size 12 nymph hook with chenille, #0 split ring and blade, and some silicone tail and legs. Man those look great! I think I'll open another "barley pop" and see if I can get that creative. The gills ought to love them too.

I like the idea but not sure about getting a decent hook set.

Looks very interesting. I was catching crappie last year on a pretty simple tie that i put a blade onto the hook-eye with a split ring... thinking they liked the flash on the fall.

I am kicking back as well and may just have to mess around with some flies.

There was a guy posting stuf on another site i'm on awhile back that he called "Coyote" flies that had a spinner on the underside shank. They did look very cool and he had talked about catching good numbers of crappie on them. I found a picture (can't find where the orig. post was ) and here's a link to something that is very close to what he was making. Cowen's Coyote

The hook set is another question mark Joe. Looks like a bad idea now! Attica I may try the blade on the hook eye. That would allow more room for a hook set and a slower fall with less weight. Would be an easier cast with a fly rod as well. . The coyote looks good too! Now Scotty V, don't get too carried away on the barley pop. Got to be up early this time of year to catch the big ones!

I was fishing this blade fly (?) under a float on my ultra light... beware of line twist!!!!! It happened to me on the lift/pull, it fell thru the water with a cool fluter action and did not spin, that was when i got the majority of hits including a very large carp. But it DID spin as it moved up or horzizontal.... go figure. I had to dig through a bunch of hooks to find ones with hook eyes large enough to attach a split ring to.
