Couple weeks ago, did the Big South Fork river. Started in TN and ended about 40 miles away in KY. We did it in a canoe and camped on islands; points the whole way down.
Some of the nicest scenery I've seen, but the camera rarely came out because it was like doing the Bataan Death march. Low water, class II, III, and iV all the way, portages from he!!, dead river first half (we're guessing coal mining) and better the second half. Invasions of toads, frogs, bees, and bears. No helicopter evacuations, no broken bones, had a beer on the last day so the trip was a success.
Here's some pix
Typically house size boulders everywhere
Taking a bath in a class II
A pet adopted us
Must be a KY thing. We joked about this before the trip, then found out a day before we took out some group drove into the water; one person drowned.
Did get a nice one on a jig I poured
We were ripe when we got off the water.
