Better Check Your Fireplace !!!

Last week, I was looking at my chimney cap on my chimney and I spotted a bunch of creosote on the sides of it...well, went inside and called my chimney sweep to come clean my chimney....the news was not good !!
They went down the chimney with the brushes and came up with pieces of my chimney pipe...corroded and full of creosote..!!...I had used a new chimney sweep last year..and apparently I thought he had done a good job..I sure was wrong..!!...
Well, what I had on my hands was a chimney fire just waiting to happen..went with my gut instinct..and did not use my fireplace !!..So now, I have to replace all the insulation and install all new double insulated chimney pipe...to the tune of $1200.00...!!...But that is better than having a chimney fire !!...:icon14:
So you all better check your fireplaces !!!...

Cleaned mine last fall and I also burn those cleaner logs that will take the creosote out of you chimney along with the other nasty build up. Think that they must work as I sweep and clean the chimney my self and it is never that dirty even burning a cord or two of wood a year.

Glad that you caught it in time. Not happy that it cost you that much to get it repaired and replaced.
