Hello first post, Im wanting to tie some hair/bug creations for bluegill and panfish :jig: . I will be using a ultra light spinning combo . Will the 1/64 ounce do fine or should I get 1/32nd ounce jig heads and do I need a certain hook size I was thinking in the 8-10 range?

Wow, that's light.

I catch panfish regularly in the mid Atlantic rivers throwing 1/8 oz 1/0 for smallies. On a L or ML power.

I personally like to use 1/80th oz jigs with a size 12 sickle hook. Pretty darn small! I can only toss those with any of my spinning rigs by using a weighted float. I could toss it with my fly rods no problem.

I have a friend that absolutely loves some of my jigs, 1/32nd oz with size 8 sickle hooks. He get Bluegill quite regularly with that size hook, which I would think would be too big. Sometimes, you never know....

Don't think we've ever gone lighter than 1/32 and our range is usually 1/32 to 1/8 with 8,6 and 4 hooks or maybe a large hook in a light head. Prefer a little larger hook to keep the dinks off when fishing for panfish.

you really need an assortment of sizes, heres what I do. I use 1/32 and 1/24oz. size 6 and 8 hooks for my kiptail jigs most of the time but there have been times when I used 1/64or 1/80 with tiny hooks for bluegills. Most of my fishing is with these jigs under a small foam float and I add a split shot between the float and the jig to give the setup enough weight to throw. Put a crappie nibble on the jigs hook and use a 2" cigar shaped foam float. I know I got off topic a lot here but just trying to give ya a little edge when you go out there. now if it's deeper water you might need to go heavier on the jig and possibly even do away with the float. when you fish water around 3 foot deep, be sure not to use a weighted float because it splats down too much and spooks the fish, just use the split shot above the jig, this can make a big difference, my old timer fishingbuddy taught me this the hard way. hope I didn't ramble too much.

Thanks for all the great information!. I already planned on fishing them under a slip float rig a majority of the time probably use the small thills unless someone can recommend something better or just as effective for less money?

I use pear shaped foam weight floats but I'd have sizes from 1/64th - 1/32nd jigs, but I've caught gills on crankbaits. but i'd have size 8-4 jig hooks.

We fish for trout/crappie/bream under a float a lot (trout/crappie Magnet's) Jeff loves this method and has developed a float that is easy on easy off and detect's the lightest bites even in swift current of the little red/white river. The last float/strike indicator you will ever buy. Not trying to sell.might want to give these a look.Trout magnet .com.Easy floats.
