Anyone ever use Baitfish Emulator Flash? It is a Hareline product. I actually got some as a gift (in black) from a swap on another board awhile back. Have to say i love the stuf! Wondering if any of you have tried it out. Have never heard much of anything about it. The nearest tying shop to me (NetCrafters) does not carry it, so i am going to be tracking some more down.

Pros: It comes strung and runs about 3 inches in length of fibers.
---- It is not all flash material, has flat colored fibers as well
---- Also has a mix of fiber sizes, some very skinny and others fatter

Cons: Must store it carefully and straight, makes it ALOT easier to work with
---- It is all cut the same length so you have to thin it out at the ends if you want a tapered tail

I have been using it in lots of ways.... As you would any flash, a few strips down the side - As a core color to craft fur and bucktail jigs with a contrasting color over top of it - Between the upper and lower wing of clousers - Chopped up finely and mixed in with dubbing - and just plain tails.

Heather - I have seen the palmer chenille and this is quite a bit different. The baitfish emulator has pretty long fibers. In my picture, that is my regular size leatherman tool underneath of it which measures 4". This stuff runs about 2.5" to 3" long.

I had been wondering... not sure if the emulator is meant to be palmered since it is strung. If was to be palmered, it would have to be done on some HUGE flies or jigs.

The original package that i got was a gift and have no clue where it was purchased. Get in contact with member - Fishhunter775 - from TNT Tackle and he should be able to help you out. ;) Got a few new colors coming now and re-stocking my black. :)

I did find where Hareline has an image of the color choices on their website.....

Feather Craft carries it.
Russ, I've stared at the piece you gave me many times... Trying to figure out exactly how I want to use it. In the picture they use to advertise, they have it palmered around the very nose of a baitfish fly so that it covers the entire fly.

Just had a thought.... What about a jumbo size soft hackle, with marabou and the BEF? (If you're bored, look up Jack Gartside's "Soft Hackle Streamer" for the basic idea)

Here ya go Bruce - they don't tie it 2-tone, but would just have to tie in a clump of blue on top. Looks like they stuck on the eyes then just dipped the nose in epoxy.

That baitfish emulator is interesting material. So many materials, so little time.

Nice looking tailspin AF.

#4 Sickle - Hematite bead head
Gray Ghost ( i think :D ) Baitfish Em.
Red flash tail and also wrapped and twisted with the thread up the shank
Thinned out the tail with scissors cutting up horizontal into the tail to get a tapered look

Was going for a transparent glass minnow appearance. :jig:

Attica add a mallard flank feather wing to that one and It will be a winner for sure. That pattern was called a Ruptured Duck in the upper mid-west and was killer on yellow perch.
