We moved to Michigan on the 1st of Nov. Arrived safe and sound, but tired, on the 2nd. I started working on the 3rd.

I still need to get a MI fishing license. And ice fishing gear. I may end up waiting until March for the license, and try to catch some ice fishing stuff on clearance.

I'll try and get some pics up of some the lakes/streams around here. I know there are two lakes that get stocked, probably with Trout, and one designated Trout Stream. I think that same stream is also a "paddle trail" for canoes/kayaks. Need to check that out.

"Life" is always an adventure with us. Sometimes it's enough of an adventure to make me sick to my stomach........

I lost track of how many dead deer we saw on the road during the night. Then there was the fog. It started out as patchy scattered fog in the bottoms as soon as the sun went down when we left OK. About halfway through Illinois, the fog turned into Pea Soup and we had to slow down to be safe until the sun came up and burned it off. That happened between Terre Haute and Indianapolis. Not to mention that my wife really underestimated how much gas that U-Haul was going to go through.....

Hey hey..... welcome to the midwest! How far North in the state are you? I keep thinking i am going to head into MI during one of our mild winters because our ice can be iffy at best. I have researched quite a few places up into MI. I warn you though, if you can deal with the cold, wind and snow...... ice fishing addiction sets in fast and will bite you in the wallet. Start saving your money now for a flasher. The are a must in my opinion.

Thanks all.

AF, I'm in Jackson. Probably 50 miles north of Toledo (and Jann's Netcraft :) ). I've lived here before; my wife is from here. I'm fairly well-acquainted with the local lakes. Now I have to get acquainted with the local streams.

I started doing a little research on ice fishing before we moved. I managed to find a copy of In-Fisherman's Ice Fishing spectacular down in OK. Yeah, talk about sticker shock for an auger and a flasher! I've already been given a few tips on where to fish, just waiting on Safe Ice.

Wow, you are not far at all from me then. I've looked into some of the lakes in the Irish Hills area for ice fishing. If i ever do head up that way, i will let you know. I've got a couple shanties and a gas auger. ;) Wanting to camp at Lake Hudson Rec. Area next summer too. You ever want to get out on Erie during the summer, we could easily do a trip on my Dads boat.

Cool! Parma isn't that far from Swain's Lake, one of the "stocked" lakes. Perfect canoe/kayak lake; small, lots of weed lines.

I'm not that far from the Grand River myself, but further upstream of you daughter. Part of it is too small for me and my kayak, but one or two river-miles away, it widens out, and hopefully there aren't any low bridges. I'm thinking about exploring that river this Spring.

Of course, the Kalamazoo River in the south-western part of the county is a designated paddle trail. I will definitely have to check that one out!
