I was inspired by his recent post of Big- N- Bright Bass Jigs and tried some myself since I live just a block away from the best small mouth river in the state of Indiana...
I used a 1/4oz. head with Pearl Chenille's and Bucktail..

Those are great-looking jigs Len. I believe those will work well.

Are you referring to the St. Joe River? Pretty good for steelhead as well, isn't it? I'd like to fish it sometime for both species.

The White River here in central IN can be pretty good for smallmouth bass too. ;)

Oh yeah.... those will work on smallmouth! Wouldn't be surprised if you locate some of the largemouth in the river also - if there are any.

One note i have learned about these in my local river is to fish them slow most of the time. BUT - in the fall when the smallies switch up and start busting schools of minnows run them fast with lots of jerks and pops of the rod. They work well when the main forage switches over to minnows. I actually have a black/white/silver combination that in my own mind i started calling a 'Jerk Pig' because of how fast and hard i fish it.

Love to hear i inspired the ties. :) They WILL catch fish and are one of my confidence baits even under tough circumstances.
