never have used it but I like Attica's bunny jigs. At least I think they are bunny jigs. Any insider info I need to know, put in an order for a years supply of hooks with CAT and bought a package of bunny to try.

Yes - i would say i use rabbit in some way (either zonkers, cross-cut or fur only) on 80% to 90% of what i make now. All of it has some extreme action in the water.... straight cut zonkers being my favorite and there are many color options including 2-tone and barred.

As for tips on tying with it - i think people are intimadated (sp?) by it but there is no reason to be! It is pretty simple to work with. Just be sure to use plenty of pressure tying it in when using the hide, it is bulky and tends to slip around the shank if you do not tie it in tight enough. It is as simple as this....

A drop of glue or clear nail polish helps, but i don't use much glue for personal ties unless fishing for toothy critters. Lots of uses for it as well...... zonker tails, cross-cut bodies, over-layed zonkers on top of chenille, trimmed from hide for accent color, trimmed and chopped for dubbed body....

This is a personal choice - when i tie straight zonker tails, i like to trim the end to a point. I figure the thinner the end of the hide the more action it gets, but i have no proof of that! :D Like this...

I liked the jig you did for the black and gold swap that is what got me interested in tying with some bunny strips.

What I like about zonker & crosscut rabbit strips is EZr to tie than loose hair, and the fibers have a nice taper, natural flair, and action.

Don't be afraid of the hares hair. Once on the advice of a so called expert ( why fool with anything except marabou ) I avoided tying with the wabbits. Finally up on getting bored tying the same old same old. I bought a fly tyers collection on ebay that was loaded with zonker strips.

Started playing with it and started using a large glass container of water to observe its action in water. As all can attest that use it the rabbit has a certain something in its movement. The fish ,always the final judge, seem to like it also.

Since my first attempts , I now prefer the material to all others. Like AF I prefer the straight cut. The cross cut looks nicer when palmering it but the straight cut seems to be preferred by the fish.

The versatility as in how many different patterns can be tied with is unlimited. Look at some of the crayfish tied on here to the zonkers and streamers. All tyers should add this to their arsenal.

I don't pin the zonker much because the longer hide strip lengthens the tie more than I like, but that color contrast between body and head/belly looks promising. Gives me an idea to try the pinned zonker overtie with shorter fiber pine squirrel strip. I'd be interested in knowing how that jig works for you oldfox.

On small jigs, 1/4" sections of hide seem to have plenty of hair - this ones 1/16 oz. #6 hook.

Some good looking bunny ties in here!

moswampy - ALL of those colors would catch fish in my waters. Don't over-look that simple all black jig, that is a SMB killer for my rivers and the crappie like them as well!!! Try those in muddy/stained water, you will be happy. ;)

oldfox - I do something similar to those, kind of a rabbit-matuka style. If vert. fishing, the top side flairs out some like the spikes on a bluegill. :icon14:

Hawn - the pine squirell zonkers are interesting. I have a few samples given to me and i can see where the top side tie would work out good.

I do love my zonks, here's some other ties of mine i don't think i have posted on here (some of ya may have seen them before) with some using several strips on a jig.....

I have tied several more up this week goofing around after the kids went to sleep. Will get some pics this weekend they are definitely AtticaInfluenced. More appropirately sized for larger fish too. Those all blacks jigs are tied for big gills 1/32 on a #6 hook, going to put it on bottom and let it crawl.

oldfox I like that jig of yours the colors would work well here too. Might be headed South in Mo to fish a gin clear lake in a couple weeks. Have been tying white jigs up to make it through a couple days of fishing brush piles.

AF,looks like that tapered cut on the end of the strip would give it more action.I never tried that before. I think I'm going to buy a couple x-cut skins soon for the body wrapping for smallies.Zonkers are a little tough to tie bodies with, but are great tails. Definitely one of my favorite materials now.

AF, is your white zonker more shiny than most? What brand?

"oldfox" I haven't had much use for chenille, but that belly look with the zonker overtie looks more & more interesting. What size is that jig? What kind of pelt?

Hawn, that is a 1/16 jig...white tinsel chenille and a 1/8" olive rabbit strip...

The white zonkers i have are from a whole hide purchased at a craft store that i cut myself. It is pure white for sure, but do not have any 'fishing' zonkers that are white to compare the sheen to. I also color correct my photos with PhotoShop to make sure colors come out accurate and white is actually white.

Advise on craft store rabbit pelts..... I would NOT order these from an online source, you need to see what the condition of the hide is. I recently was in Pat Catan's (a local craft store) to pick up some supplies and looked at the rabbit furs they had. All of them had very thick skin and i did not purchase any. Thin skin is better.
