This is a different way of doing this jig, you tie the wings in with a little more cup but you have to have the right kind of hackle to make it look right and when I found the right ones I decided to do one. When I say the hackle has to be right I mean it has have no gaps in the barbs and these worked nice color wise as they were bad chinchilla dyed hackle feather that I got from Michaels as they were the only ones that the dye didn't go all the way out to the edges so you have sort of an outline, I think it looks a lot like a wing. It is a simple 1/8oz ball jig painted gray with a body of gray bucktail and silver flash, the wings are the messed up chinchilla hackle feathers and finished off with a furnace hackle collar. The jig on the left is one I did a week or so ago and I wanted you to see the difference the hackle makes in this tie.

Excellent tie SJ!!! You might want to look for more of those feathers - cause if that jig gets really hot you'll find that you won't find any to tie more!!!!

Thank you all for the kind words!!! I got a whole bag of those feathers from Michaels because the dye job was bad and they stuck out and I thought "wings" right from the get go as I went there after tying up some of the other dobson fly jigs for my frined. I messed up as I took the pic you see along with a pic of the other dobson fly jig next to it to show the difference but I used the wrong pic which is why my description was weird. After I tied 3 of these I told my wife that I need to hit Michaels up in the next week or so and see if they get other bags of these mess up dye jobs because they even look pretty good using them in the traditional fashion. Thanks again.

Nice, looks like it will take flight.

Grass hoppers sink when you add a little weight - and catch fish.
