Well the tree i was scared of held up to Isaacs wind and rain... It didnt lose a single limb. Had several fall from other trees during the storm but not this one! WHEW! I made several comments today how lucky i was. Then I went to the bank and came back to find this...

The big part of the limb is about 10" in diameter. You can see in the second pic how the end was barely held up by that little fork. The limb was almost vertical so the most of its weight was on the roof. It held like that for about an hour. Every time the wind blew you could hear cracking until it finally fell and wedged against the trunk of the tree. Not sure of the damage other than when it fell the second it ripped the gutter off. I was alone with June so I didnt think momma would like me getting on the roof with her on my hip. Im prolly goin to need ear plugs tonight for not getting that tree cut!:@

Well, looks like it coulda been worse if the limb free fell onto the roof. Bad luck about the gutter tho. Does your insurance cover wind damage?

I have a high deductible $1500. Thats goin to be more than the actual damage. I was hoping insurance would pay to cut the tree now. But as expected they will only pay to remove the limb. Had another tree company come this evening for an estimate... Said it would take 2 to 2.5 days to cut and cost a measly $5k! Anyone want to buy some really spensive jigs???

Takedown or major lop looks well beyond do-it yourself. How tall?

Maybe some bad axe West Texans would be interested in heading over?

Hope the roof isn't mess up and a few shingles will fix it. Good to hear you didn't have any other trouble from the storm. Be careful cutting the limb and watch for kickbacks.

My chainsaw has beeeeen running.
Glad to have gotten power back.
I still may have to evacuate if these Locks don't hold. Looks like sun'll shine though. fingers crossed.
Trade that cut for some jig heads n a nap for two in the shop.

Thx man. Got some family n friends that'll prob need gutting. Seems the N.O. protection levies have done good…for them. Looks like new problems for everyone else with those diversions in place.
Opened some "valves" to relieve pressure on the locks so we'll see.

Ive learned more from this'n than Katrina. Glad everyone is safe.

Wish I cldve lent a hand and hoping you can find some affordable assistance.

Good to hear y'all are alright Adam... I have a bunch of family that got flooded as well. Slidell, mandeville, and even Laplace took it pretty bad! Every storm is so different... It's a shooting match on who is going to get the worst of it!
Good luck on putting everything back together... I don't envy lugging a chainsaw... I cut up more trees after Katrina than most people will do in a lifetime!!
Stay safe!! Prayers are with you brother!
