Took my 5yr old boy out on Saturday morning to go hike by the river and also to a local reservoir to check water levels. Didn't plan to fish ( 
) but did grab my rod when we got to the res and figured i would take a few casts around the boat ramp while my boy threw rocks on the other side. It took 3 casts to hook into this 14" LMB on a chart kip jig... float and fly style! 
Later on, after supper, i went up to my hometown res by myself for a few hours. Still COLD and not a very pleasent evening, temps in the upper 30's and sleeted on me twice. BUT - the fish didn't seem to mind. Caught several small bass and 1 crappie.
The crappie measured 13.5" and was the biggest i have caught from this res - and very close to my personal best crappie. It was caught on a jig..... but it was intended for bluegill tipped with a chunk of crawler. Was on my bait/bobber rod i was watching while casting with my other rod. Either way - i will take it!!!
