Unless I am missing something, I have never seen #5 Chenille. In my experience of some (35) years of tying, I have only seen or used the ollowing sizes.
#1 = Small #2 - Medium #3 - Large

So, then I will assume from that, #5 would be a huge diameter. Maybe someone else would have a better answer................

The size 5 is on the larger side, not as big as they offer but still a little large. It will work good for jigs 1/8 or bigger or too buk up a 1/16. The only thing that I personally like is the crystal chenille in #5

Awesome! That's just the info I was looking for, Fish Hunter. Thanks so much. I won a gift certificate and was trying to figure out what to buy with it. I got a lot of new stuff headed my way!

The difference is a bit more evident with Crystal. This photo shows Black #5 & #10 side by side.

In CA's Newage Chenille, it's not such a great gifference. Here is SS Fancy, #3 on the left & #5 on the right.

Very good thread. Interesting read about the comparisons.

#5 turned out to be perfect for my 1/8 jigs. I ordered several colors, but wish I would have ordered a bunch more.

You'd be surprised how the #10 Crystal will slow the fall of a 1/8oz jig. It really helps the heavier jigs "drift" through the strike zone better (slower). Put that same #10 Crystal on a 1/16oz jig & you'll wish you'd packed a good book in the boat!

Why would you want a heavier jig to sink slower? Wouldn't you just use a lighter jig?

A heavier jig will cast farther. Better distance, and if you can increase the time it takes to sink a heavier jig, it stays in the strike zone longer.

LP, the advantage to a heavier jig falling slower comes to bear for me when I'm pitching out and letting the jig swing back on a tight line. The weight of the jig seems to give me a better feel of what the jig is doing. For instance, when swinging back across a brushpile, it allows me to better feel limbs and such, reducing hangups. Also, often the fish want a larger bait (you know, big bait = big fish.......sometimes). The #10 Crystal really does make a bigger profile and, it holds air bubbles too. I do fish small quite a bit but I have a selection of BIG in my box at all times. You never know.

I like using the size 5 chenille's on some jigs and it helps on some 1/16 oz jigs also. Try using some of the Eyelash chenille, it will surprise you at how effecting it can be.

Well done! I like those a lot. What are you using for the tail/back part of jig?

GrampsJigs, the tail material is bucktail. It it from a chartreuse bucktail but is the top side that doesn't get used as chartreuse because of the brown hair. I have found it to be very good for hybrid bass and I'm sure some other species will like it also. I have used the yarn on hackle jigs for crappie and the silver works great when the crappie bite is slow. Seems to add the flash that makes them hit the jig.

Thanks, StumpHunter. It is really quite an eye catching color combination. I am not long on bucktails in my tying supply. Will need to pick some up at the local tackle shop.
