Will be looking to catch smallmouth bass with these.

Grubs, like the top three above, can be tied relatively quickly once the tails are cut. The twist of the two chenille yarns for the bottom jig took a little while. Each jig has a 1/4-oz. ball head with a #1 hook.

Nice ties Pup = what did you use for your paint job!!!

FM,

I used a combination of Harbor Freight (HF) Powder Paints, some Orbit clear, very fine light green glitter, and fine black glitter. The HF combo has a ratio of 1:1:1 parts of red, yellow, and matte black.

Those look great! Do you fish for small mouth the same way as a large mouth around points, humps and structure.

StumpHunter,

I fish for smallmouth bass in a local river. They do relate to structure and cover like largemouth and spotted bass do. Though, in the river, you can find them behind boulders, logs, and stumps. They may lie beneath ledges and under cut banks. A favorite cover type for them is a good old sycamore tree root wad. They like eddies and breaks in current. Sometimes, they're in riffles or at the tail end of pools. Much of the "where they are" is seasonal, just as it is for largemouth bass.

Those are really nice! I love the Idea of durable organic material instead of plastic. I only know of eel skin for such purpose,

which is tough but incrediably soft once it is soaked with water. Doesn´t have much substance though, only for small tyes.
Can I ask what kind of leather exactly you use and where to get it? Will it need any care s.a. fat or something to stay smooth? How long does it take to soften up in the water when you take it out of the box??
Would be great to have a replacement for pork rinds which are unobtainable over here.

Thanks for the info Pup :icon14:, there is a river on the NC/SC line that has small mouths and I may take a ride up there and try fishing for them.

Cowhide trim and suede remnants. I purchase them from a Tandy Leather Factory store in Indianapolis, IN.

I really don't know, because I do not care about smoothness. I care about flexibility. Some leather seems to stiffen a little after fishing it a few times. I suspect that it's due to losing oil. I'll experiment with glove oil to determine if that will help restore affected leathers to their original flexibility.

Depends on thickness. For most I've used, immediately with the first cast. Leather is quite porous.

I've found on the shammy's that the more worn in they are the better they are. Used to use them instead of pork strips and alot easier to carry.

Are you speaking of leather or viscose? I sure like the leather, just ordered one on e-bay. Love the idea of dying that
