A couple new mixes I created. I got my clear powder the other day and I couldn't believe the difference it makes mixing powder.

What do you guys mean by using clear? I've added clear to a already clear flake to extend it. I have some UV blast that I thought about adding to some custom mixes to try it out. Will any of this work? Thanks by the way both of those are nice bass catching colors.

I (personally, can not speak for the original poster) use clear more to let any glitter or flake show through the main color in my mixes. It will also 'extend' or bulk up some colors very easily as you mention. Like adding oatmeal (& binding egg) to a pound of burger to make a meatloaf. It simply makes it go further.

As i originally mentioned, if you add clear to color (the darker the color the more clear you need to add in my experience) it lets any kind of glitter or flake material show through that opaque color much easier. In short, the clear reduces the opaqueness of the color, and lets whatever else is in the mix show up in the final product better.

Those are really nice heads! I am trying to get this straight in my head. Are you adding the clear to the color and flake mix and getting that result in one application or doing an additional coat of clear / flake on top?

Clear is added as part of the mix.

IE to make a watermelon, Green pumpkin, green Olive whatever you wanna call it
2 parts yellow
1 part black
3 parts clear

Alternately, I have a customer that wants black specks on a white jig.
1 part glitter
8 parts clear (adjusted for getting the speckle he wanted)

PC jig white, reheat dip in clear/glitter mix then cure

Thanks so much! I have 30 + base coated jigs to experiment with. It is my understanding that the flake colors (pro flake) I have from TJs are a clear mix but the results have been less than stellar. Would adding more clear to these help?

If your heads are already painted a base color........ the Pro-Tec flake mixes are perfect for adding glitter on top a base. However, i have never had luck with trying to dip (in jar or fluid bed) and getting flake glitter to stick, HAVE to tap it for me to get it to work. Read some other people have gotten it too work... i may not heat my heads enough to get it to stick, not sure.

BUT! Are the heads already painted and cured? Do you know what kind of paint was used originally? Reason being, tried to 'top coat' a friends jigs once that had already been painted some time before i ever got them. Had no clue what type paint or if they had been cured. They were some of the trickiest things i have ever tried to paint. They would take the paint, but the original paint would bubble if they were heated too quickly.

I powder painted them. I did 3 different pearl colors that I wasn't really happy with. I will try a colored / clear / flake mix on them and see if I can brighten them up a bit.
