    Kimchi

Still making & enjoying kimchi - got 5 different batches in the frig right now including a used sparingly potent batch made with home grown mustard greens back in 2018 and still delicious. I prefer head cabbage but do have a jar made with traditional Korean style napa cabbage aka won bok...

    rock-a-roo jigs

Wow, great find, great pics, museum worthy items. Looks like dye dipped tails? Unpainted heads as compared with another walleye angling legend Bill Binkelman who was very specific about fluorescent color painted head choices. Every region or even spot will have standout anglers who have...

    rock-a-roo jigs

Never been but road trip fishing Canada is on my bucket list, & I'd certainly tie up some PB jigs to use in country. They'd be in a tackle box on the return trip back to the USA. Does your fishing gear get searched on your trips?

    rock-a-roo jigs

Just checked online, legal to sell in Canada but export is prohibited. Road trip?

    rock-a-roo jigs

Sounds about right. I wonder if Native Americans up north are exempt?

    rock-a-roo jigs

Digging back into jig history did Do-it originate in Iowa ? Never seen em, but Do-it apparently offered their versions of Rock-a-roo and Doll Fly jig head molds. https://custombaits.com/index.php?topic=12651.0

    rock-a-roo jigs

Thanks for the pic Fatman. Didn't realize the Doll head was wedge shaped, which explains the popularity of the Do-it Walleye Jig head among the old timers here. Clarifies that the Rock-a-roo & Doll heads were totally different. I once bought a half card of 1/16 ball head Zing flies on eBay...

    rock-a-roo jigs

I think the crappie sized Doll Flys were ball heads, but the walleye sizes were a different head design. Guessing there might have been some collaboration between Cap Kennedy & Elmer Thompson given the heads design similarity ?

    rock-a-roo jigs

Whats so special about a Rock-a-roo jig head? Is it the same design as the original Elmer Thompson Doll Fly head?

Those barred orange feathers make the tie pattern special, what kind are they?

    Open Water in Winter?

3" Twitchtails are one of my go-tos for walleye white pearl and opening night colors. What are you catching with what sizes/colors Twitchtails?

    Trout jigs

Start of the trout season here, been targeting stocker size 8-12" for the last few sessions due to lack of bigger fish at EZ access spots. Yesterday not expecting much tried my first ruff country hike bout 4 miles one way and was pleasantly surprised to C&R 8 chunkies 5-10#. All bit the same...

    Vise for large jigs (5/0).

Wow, what are you tying on such large hooks? What target species? Never tried larger than 1/0 Gami 604 on my HMH Spartan. Mostly I tie #6 & #4 hook heads for trout. Checking the HMH website, "Magnum" jaws are available that claim to fit up to 6/0 hooks but expensive at almost $70. My stock...

Creature fishing mentioned in posts - but what is your definition of a creature bait?

Thinkingredneck, hereafter TRN, where you at & what do you catch? Is the gator head a clue?

    Midwest finesse

Thought about it SM, & for your target species, sizes, & tinkering probably not worth the expense to switch to Elaz-tech. Haven't tried Z-mans for bass fishing doing OK with Gulp, but from experience with opening night color 2-1/2" Slim Swimz targeting smaller walleye I would recommend them...

    Open Water in Winter?

Never have never will ice fish, but moving water here provides opportunity to get some tugs during warm window ice melts. Last week walked a mile of river bank with a bit of snow on shady ground and got around 20 mostly 10" rainbow trout + a bonus 15# carp hungry enuf to bite a jig. 1/16 #6...

Regarding action, I honor the creator of both the twister and boot paddle tails - the late Mr. Twister. founder Robert Glynn Carver. Not sure but long before Gary Yamamoto introduced his Senko bait Lunker City's Sluggo may have been the original straight stick bait. I was hesitant to try the...
