    Latest Greatest Softie

Actually, tested & proven when I first moved to Nebraska years ago then forgotten as I moved on trying other stuff. First time tried on a hot sunny day with the usual crowd of bait dunkers forcing me to stand between them casting close in straight out. Within a few casts had 2 chunk wallys 21"...

    New project

There is one guy here who uses the reel & pause tekneek for walleye, and he usually keeps up with & sometimes exceeds the catches of the pack using lift & fall retrieves. Mr. HU, are you attaching the front of the bait with a Hitchhiker ?

    Fall Bite

14" white bass is a chunk ! Good #s of nice fish out your way. How long will the bite last? With canal flows here shut down for now annual maintenance, reservoir inlets & outlets no longer offer aerated flowing water to attract predators & prey. The diminishing water levels in the canals...

What species are y'all targeting with the Swim Jig & with what kind of retrieve?

    Spinning Reel Maintenance

3 sessions one a full 8 hrs with the smoothed spool edge 8# and zero problems. After 64 years of casting spinning gear never considered that a ruff spool edge could be the culprit.

An idea to keep soft plastics up on jigheads - the Grub Grip

Hey SM, which lures were effective for what species ?

An idea to keep soft plastics up on jigheads - the Grub Grip

Do you get out on the water, Toad ? I was thinking of checking out OK wiper fishing, but road trip nodding has become hazardous.

    Spinning Reel Maintenance

Noticed that my 10# Sufix 832 was getting fray spots, rod guides and tip top didn't appear to have any damage. Running a finger along the top edge of the reel spool revealed multiple nicks & ruff spots so smoothed em out with a 600 grit diamond abrasive bar. The consequence of being in a...

Night Jigging - the final frontier

Now that the meatheads of Summer have abandoned the spots they fished out allowing re-population by migration, decided to target wallys.. Conditions were right, flows were minimal enabling baitfish & predators to congregate without having to deal with excessive current flow and embedded...

Night Jigging - the final frontier

All alone again this AM in the dark 11 wipers + 6 white bass. Yesterday's effective bait was 2-1/2" pearl Slim SwimZ, today's 2"blue ice Baby Shad. Tip for night newbies, fish intended locations daytime to familiarize with: 1. Best stands for casting and landing fish. 2. Underwater terrain...

An idea to keep soft plastics up on jigheads - the Grub Grip

Hey Toad, yer still kickin', eh? I tried the thread wrap on the shank sealed with nail polish, and that collar seemed too narrow to grip as welll as my preferred super glued bead stacks. Elaz-tech is truly amazing stuff, besides being extraordinarily durable, its extreme pliability enables...

Night Jigging - the final frontier

If your exploits require a boat, then venturing out in the dark is sketchy, eh? I don't blame you, could run into an unseen hazard or unforseen inclement weather, and getting disabled at night assistance would likely be limited at best. However, fishing from shore at night might present...

An idea to keep soft plastics up on jigheads - the Grub Grip

Some innovations aren't appreciated till after the creator is gone. The wire bait holder is a good idea, but my bead collars work OK and I ain't fixin what ain't broke. The original spike "barb" collars on jig heads have updated designs available, but they are still widely used successfully by...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Back to downsizing, most guys here prefer 4 -5" plastics for targeting wipers, but observing that the jumping prey fish escaping surface feeds were 2" or even smaller currently decided to downsize my usual 3" or slightly shortened versions of stick baits and boot tails to my smallest 2" plastic...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Downsizing can be useful, so can be upsizing. Yesterday in a reservoir inlet pool there was an extreme fast water flow incoming from a canal, and 1/4 oz. casts landed in mid current good enuf for 5 wipers. Today upsized to heaviest ever used in NE 5/16 oz head with biggest ever hook 3/0...

How do you explain predators swallowing lures like food and getting deeply hooked ?

    Victory Jig Hooks

Modern quality hooks are mostly black nickel finished, old school classics might still be available shiny nickel but I prefer modern tech.

    Z-man Elaztech

3 out of 3 good outcomes - congratulations ! Except your boy is gonna go Evel again - does he get paid for death defying stunts? Mr. Knievel had to heal from 433 bone fractures.

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Don't have a pic taker device but here is a stock photo of a 1/4 oz HeVhed with a propeller rabbit fur tie. The #4 VMC heavy wire hook version pictured was modified with a 1/0 Gamakatsu 604 heavy wire hook. The smallie plastic mounted on the HeVhed was the previously pic posted 2" Bobby...
