Another take on why fish (possibly) strike lures in general (not accepted by most)

Humans are attracted to, ignore, avoid and in some extreme cases - attack things, either by choice or involuntarily. (A few members on other forums make me want to attack them verbally with their sarcasm, but in most cases I resist the urge.) Fish are simple beings that are in the same boat (pun...

    Changes?

Heck, late next week is supposed to have some days above 40 with a possible 50 on Sat. - and I'm in NY! Of course more often than not, weather predictions are more guesses than predictions and less accurate than flipping a coin.

An idea you might want to try to extend the life of soft plastics

The wire comes in handy to keep plastic trailers on skirted bass jigs: Twist the wire once around as shown and bend the ends. Just be sure the loop has enough play for up-&-down trailer motion but isn't too loose to come off when a fish strikes: Press the tips into the trailer:

An idea you might want to try to extend the life of soft plastics

I'm not sure I understand the question but I use the wire L for all jig head plastics Some examples: used with plastic worms: Also use it with jigs added to spincast attachments: Swimbaits

An idea you might want to try to extend the life of soft plastics

I've found time and again that the jig weight you paid for is not what you got especially when hook size is larger or smaller. If the head of the jig seems smaller or larger, I keep those apart from those that are the right size though most times lure weight and size are the most important thing.

An idea you might want to try to extend the life of soft plastics

Walmart carries it: 270' for $1.77 It's used for floral arrangements, wreaths, etc. Well worth it to avoid soft plastic lure waste and frustration. I forgot to mention that though you may own jigs with collars, they can be removed to go collarless. 1. With pliers flatten the lead collar 2...

An idea you might want to try to extend the life of soft plastics

Like all of you, I got tired of tearing up my solft plastic lures whether on jigs or when using skirted jig trailers and came up with this idea 10 years ago. It's basically a wire clip that holds plastics in place and allows them to be used over and over even after catching 20 fish. I call it a...

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

Texture is one attractant - who knows why except the fish that feel the difference. Smooth or a glassy finish is fine as long as the other elements of the design fit just right. I've posted many photos that prove just that. But one possibility occurred to me last night, namely that most lures...

Beats having to use a spoon or floor tile as a mold. JiggerJohn loved them!!

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

For sure!!! ...and a flat ribbed body at that! A flat tail from the Mo Magic shape was joined to a segment of French Fry stick: It's one of my best hybrids and catches EVERYTHING!!! I add other tail shapes to the Fr Fry body. ( I added perch pattern colors for the H* of it and not because I...

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

My mistake. The lures are called Do-It CNC Mo Magic I bought the 2.5" grub mold for $49. Not bad for a 12-cavity, aluminum injection mold. They range in lure size from 2.5"- 8". I love the thin straight tail and add them to different bodies, though the lure works great right out of the mold...

    A sad farewell to JiggerJohn

I'm happy that John had fulfillment discussing his (and my) obsession - fishing, and not only fishing but discovering magic lures that proved themselves capable of catching fish almost like magic.

Gas - $3.35/g Sunoco with card otherwise $3.70/g $3.40/ doz. eggs $2.50 loaf of white bread ...and this is in N.Y.! Fishing lures - free to me because I make all of my soft plastics and pay the best price for jigheads.

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

That's it, rub it in! Thought I caught it soon enough in the middle of the night. Better than naming the hook bonsai. All that yelling to match the name would surely spook the fish! We all have excuses why fish weren't caught. Heck, I was lucky to catch 5 small bass in 5 hours on a local lake...

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

A big congrats on a nice smallie day. I prefer smallies in current more than lake LM. About hook size: where the hook exits the lure #1 is important for best lure action. Fish instinctively go for the head of a moving object whether alive or a lure. They are programmed to stop the object from...
