    80dF in November?

I've seen big smallies hanging in pack but most tend to be loners on the rivers I fish. They own the hole. Only exception is when the water is this low, then they all hang in the same hole. The chuck smallies are there just freaked out by the low water. Also the small flows I fish don't...

    38dF and a heart break

Listenting to the weather report on Wednesday and figured that we would have one more decent day until the rain hit so called Leon and it was game on. Weather report didn't talk about the full moon but since we were booked, we decided to give it a go. Started off and it was chilly. Wader...

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

I believe that texture attracts the fish. Never seen a minnow with a mirrored surface. Nice job!

    80dF in November?

Pigs are there. I can see them. Hooked one today & got a heartbreak. Smallest swimbaits were 2.5". I don't fish them that small because I want to cull the dinks. Still of the school of bigger baits bigger fish. I fished with 3.5" to 4"

Nice bait. Kind of like a modified grub? If they sell one with a ribbed body it would be killah

    Walleye Jigs

Walleye are bonus fish on the waters I fish. Mostly catch them on baits with some sort of sparkle (clown) or chartreuse. The rivers north of us - jerk baits in shad like colors work well

    80dF in November?

The river is recovering from pollution and farms dumping their chicken & livestock waste into the rivers. The regulators stepped in about 10 years ago and the results are showing.. No panfish to speak of yet Water's still very low. Fish are concentrated in area's with deep pools. Bass...

    80dF in November?

So, it's summer time temps in November and what is a man suppose to do. Got the kayaks out and did a float. Due to the time change, we left an hour earlier than normal so that we don't have to float in the dark. Day started out nice and just got nicer. No photoshop here - just God's great...

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

On this we agree. I've caught some big fish and never lost one on a 114 due to hook breakage.

    Changes?

Heading back out to CA in a few weeks. Reports are showing the kelp beds are full of cod, sheep head, and snapper. This time I had to pay for the boat LOL

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

To be honest, I like Gamakatsu 114's the best The sickles are much cheaper and work 2/0 is my favorite size. When I fish for bass with those smaller hooks I loose to many of the big ones. 1's are my favorite size for most of the inshore brackish water I fish. In certain waters, and for...

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

I wouldn't say lots but I do have hundreds of each size up to 2/0 Enough to keep me busy during the winter months I'm just starting to understand the virtue of the Gulp baits since starting brackish water fishing. I'm use to fragile baits fishing keitechs and senkos in fresh water

    Changes?

I've done the same with many friends. Especially when they expect me to pour, tie & send jigs with out even a thank you In this case it's a high school buddy. And he got to keep all the fillets since I was traveling and what would I do with them? Very well could be? I'm no expert. Just...

Couple months ago, some stock surfaced at Barlows.

    Changes?

Fish was a bull - male. Check out the nose. Females have a bump on the their forehead. Yes - grilled up fresh fillets for dinner that night, then made mahi mahi omelets for breakfast the next day I haven't been to the Islands in years and can only imagine how expensive they are now. Since I...

    Changes?

That's why they call them head boats And when you get into a hot bite, it's madness. I've seen people drop down with a heart attack and other pull a gun when someone tries to "take their spot" But you're not going to catch this unless you either venture out or pay huge bucks for a private charter

    Changes?

It's what we call 1/2 day or 3/4 day ocean going boats with 50-60 anger capacity. Term's widely used in CA. Each angler buys a ticket until the boat's full

Used to use a tablespoon as a mold - now only a floor tile and a few molds to make thin-tail minnows

No argueing this. But I have to try both because sometimes the fish want a fast retrieve. Usually I discover this by accident when reeling in to cast again

Finally connected the dots between lures and the fish they catch

For bass, in the fall they have to put on their feed bags to live through the winter. But bass also strike because they are pissed off at the bait for invading its territory Both work for me as long as I get to catch them
