    KISSing Winter Smallies

That's smallie fish'n for you. In rivers they move around allot depending on the season. One day you can have a 100 fish day, the next day it's like "What happened?"

Smallies wear out gear. Go to Canada and catch 50-75 pigs day after day and you'll understand. I typically buy 2000 sizes. Add a bunch of pike & 'eyes in there too. The Daiwa's anti-reverse clutch wears out. First happened to a couple SSII's. Sent them back to Daiwa and they asked me WTH...

    Winter Jigs

Jigs look good! Post some pix of the fish ur catching with them. I've fished allot in January and mostly with jigs I either pour or tie and have been doing great.

Don't own any Stellas. Because of Shimano Stradic's binding issues when they get wet, and their maintenance people believe the binding is user error, I no longer will spend $$'s with Shimano. Shimano's worked great until I started fishing rivers from a kayak or canoe. Diawa Ballistics and...

I build rods and typically use top end materials. On most floats, I'll have a rod I'm using, and a RAM rod holder hanging a rod off the back. But on floats I typically only do in the summer and have a class III rapid, I'd prefer to carry only one rod in case I flip. And that rod would be...

I carry one rod wading, traveling or kayaking in an area I could flip and loose it. If we're talking all you need, yes If I'm invited on a "real" boat, I'll bring two

All I really need is one rod/reel, handful of jigs in various sizes and a couple bags of soft plastics, so yup!

I've been able to proved the following axiom on the water. "Color only matters when it matters, but when color matters, it really matters. Again, small mouth river bass experience speaking here. How many times have you had a nice meal, not been hungry, but walked by a bowl of potato chips and...

Yes. Or a body swish. Again, to disorient the bait to the fish can come iback for the kill - or meal

When I first started smallie fishing, a wise learned angler taught me to pay attention to the rub. Many discussions, and beer, were spent discussing what the "rub" was? After copious amounts of time on the river, I learned to recognize the rub and be prepared for the bite. My consolation is...

Sounds like a small mouth bass. I call them bullies But I do believe they strike to disorientate so they can come in for the kill & eat too

    Cold & crazy

As the day went on two things happen. Was behind an island blocking the wind. A very very Long Island. Second was yes, the wind did die down to what they forecasted. I got a bunch of pix of that hawk. I'm assuming it was so cold it just said F it to me and didn't want to move. Problem I...

No - it was f'n cold. Dumb luck? Or am I just learning the nuances of winter fishing?

    Another chilly day

Decided the cold & wind yesterday was not enough, so when an invite came for today I was thrilled to be out on the water today Bit chillier than yesterday but little to no wind. Sun peaked out for just a few minutes, but for the most part, the sun was hidden behind a layer of clouds. I'm...
