Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Took me a long time to warm up to elaztech. PIA to hook, don't like using super glue, won't stay in place on a jig But with all those issues, last year I finally started throwing it and now use it allot. I've caught 100s of fish on the same bait. Just remove it at the end of the day and put...

    New business

The only time I've ever broke a St. Croix has been by slamming a door on the tip or by closing the trunk on the end of a reel seat When Shikari went out of business, I bought about a dozen of their banks for cheap. Broke 1/2 dozen of their blanks setting the hook. Also broke a RX8 setting the...

    New business

I pretty much make all the rods I fish with. Have been a St Croix 'ho for decades. Just lov the action and power of the blanks. 5'6' SCIII UL, 6'6" SCIII, 6' SCV M and SCiV ML, and 6'6" SCII MH Got all the blanks on sale when newer models were introduced.

Big Fish From Shore At Night On Jigs

I draw the line at fishing when the water gets hard. In the mid Atlantic rivers, only once is 10 years does the river freeze enough. And don't know enough about the lakes to fish them through the ice. Cats will hit anything that has scent.

    Weedless Darter jig mold

Good call on the hooks Jim - my experiences too with other brands. I'm sticking with the tried and true. I've been trying to get a Hilts mold off a buddy similar to the darter head molds. So far he says he wants to sell but hasn't moved on it yet. That mold would work for a safety pin...

    The Legacy of our Mentors

Spelling's never been my forte. Just ask Bill from RS LOL Case's plastic pigs could be cut in certain places or plastic removed to improve the action on both the body and tail which imho attracts fish

    The Legacy of our Mentors

Phil Shaeffer was one of my early mentor's in tieing jigs. Learned to tie the rabbit hare jigs - piece of crosscut for the body and zonker for the tail. So was Butch Neil. His bass jigs were well known to the river smallmouth community. Tad big of bucktail, then a body of silicon hair...

    Who would have thought?

Same local rivers. Low water. We need rain. The little bit we've been getting just gets soaked up by the ground before it flows into the rivers

    Who would have thought?

Smallies usually like water that's cool. Not 82dF. Not blue bird skies. Not 90dF outside. Tell that to this 20.25", 3.6# smallie who was feeding in one foot of water

    Celebration of Life trip

We were both camera jockeys and stopped taking most pix early in the trip. About 20 fish per day each. Never put any on a scale - had a bunch of smallies close to 20" but were 1/4 to 1/2 inch short. Yes, walleye. 25". Not sure of weight? This one was over the slot limit so it got to live...

    Celebration of Life trip

As for technique, find rocks and find fish. We caught them on everything we threw. Any lead thrown, I poured.

    Celebration of Life trip

Been on the road the past month and busier than a one armed paperhanger with fleas. Two days before Leon & I would start the 17 hour drive north I get the call. My Dad's not doing good. 15 minutes later the nurse calls me saying he took his last breath. Dad's in SoCA. I'm in VA. So started...

Not often do I get blown away by where fish are caught but....

Natual Black/blue Green pumpkin/red Keep in mind I chase smallmouth most of the time But I was just in 110dF weather in the desert. There's a man made pond there that never produces. A 6 year old kid once told me, Mr, you're using the wrong bait. I said OK, then what bait should I use...

Rain has saved the day in June!

jmho. Rains are always good for fishing. Think about it. When it rains heavily, the fish's home size increase. When it's a drought the fish's home size decrease and cause them stress. Rain also drops food into the water. Good stuff here
