Yesterday, fishing a 2/0 Game 114 and got another flat head. Was able to land the fish with no hook problems.

    Victory Jig Hooks

Have you tried the nickel finish in salt yet? I'm finding the salt water doesn't really affect the hook and am having no rust issues. I rinse the rods, reels and baits I use right after the salt water trip so I'm sure that helps with corrosion

    Victory Jig Hooks

Due to the low waters on the mid-eastern rivers, I've been heading out to brackish water more and more. Been chasing white perch mostly with UL gear and home made beetle spin lures. The jig on the beetle spins are either matzuo or eagle claw little nasty hooks. Ran into a school or spots last...

Dad had altheimers and lived 2500 miles away. Then he died. Son needed to be airlifted off of a 13,000' mountain while extreme skiing. That's him on the gurney under the rotorcraft with the paramedic Wife got eye lens transplants. Good news is Dad's estate has been settled, son recovered...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

I do. Especially in either deep holes or when the rivers are up. I've gone as heavy as 1/2 oz after flooding. This year has found the eastern rivers in almost drought conditions so I've stayed light. 1/8oz and less.

Continuation of discussion about lure choice

Is it the lure that entices fish to strike? Or photo period? Water level? Water temps? Outside temps? Clarity? Current? So many factors

    Walleye Jigs

Fish pretty much the same for small mouths. Other rod is a 6'6" ML with a 2000 reel. Been fishing allot of salt lately because the rivers are so low you need to drag a kayak. Usually chase white perch with UL rod, 500-700 size reel and 6# breaking strength tectan. Ran into a school of...

    Jig Spinners

Usually add a gulp bait on the ones with no skirts tied. I like slightly bigger hooks and blades than the manufacturers do

    catfish on lures

Bonus fish. Fun on ML to M small mouth gear. The initial run makes you think you have the smallie of a life time until they start the dreaded deathroll. Hooked up with a couple flathead beasts up on the Susky. They like Keitec swimbaits. Nice fight but never landed - but still not worth...

    Jig Spinners

If by understand you mean beetle spin type baits, fish them. I've caught just about every species I target on them - salt & fresh

    Took the long drive north

We didn't target walleye - bonus fish on small mouth baits We fished shoreline, drops, points, and area's where the topo maps showed depth coming up to shallow It never really got dark up there. We pretty much fished at dawn for about 8-9 hours/day then retired to the cabin to eat, restock...

    Took the long drive north

Creek mouths were unproductive. Temps initially in the mid-30's and fish were just coming up from the depths - pre-pre-spawn. I usually check the gullet of the smallies before release. Minnows and bugs

"We covered miles of river" This is a mistake - suppose to read miles of lakes

    Took the long drive north

Not sure. The two big lakes are connected by a narrow stretch of water - but I wouldn't call it a river. We see a few creeks but no rivers - or I'd be fishing them too. Plastic frog and lily pads

    Took the long drive north

Unlike most trips, it was windy every day. Made it very hard to fish and control the boat. Had to focus on boat control to catch fish. One of those smallies wears one out. Luckily, it wasn't a fish on every cast trip. At the end of the day, my shoulders were sore, my arms were rubber and I...
