Better late than never, eh? Lead molds at Goodwill?!! The bullet nose design likely won't sit upright like the Midwest Finesse head. The skinny bait holder barbs are bendy and work better if you snip off a bit of the barb tips. The required heavy wire hooks may not be best choice for your apps.

An idea to keep soft plastics up on jigheads - the Grub Grip

Local walleye jiggers here use super glue to secure plastics. Can't fault them cuz some outfish me every time.

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Haha, GALs can certainly be moody and particular. Being a KISS guy only use a few options from hyper wiggle paddle tails to downsize straight tails and either can be a best choice at different times. One situation when shorter baits are advantageous is when fish are short striking grabbing...

    Z-man Elaztech

Haven't seen your creations posted for awhile Pup. Catching fish out in Indy? Does being retired mean more water time? I like to change lures to compare what works better, so this AM shortened the 2-1/2" Slim SwimZ to 2" mounted on a smaller hook #2 head. Altho pearl has been getting bit...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Extreme example of small jigs being bit by big fish this AM. Setting the hook didn't feel like much as the fish swam towards my stand without any struggle. As it came close to the rocks it veered and headed down current exhibiting unmistakable heft of a heavy fish, either a carp or catfish...

    Z-man Elaztech

The Z-man 2-1/2" pearl Slim SwimZ continues to shine the night before enticing 3 unusually nice wallys up to 24" from my fave usually fished out meathead dunking spot + bonus dozen white bass. Most bites & catches drag the bait down off the bead collar, but the near indestructible soft...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Downsizing lure size works in warm water too. After 2 weeks of day temps consistently in the 90s to low 100s really glad to have become accustomed to fishing in the dark before sunrise. Big lake 2-3/4 - 3" tails got bit but but most fail to stick in current small water habitat. Switching to...

    Walleye Jigs

Time to switch to smaller waters lighter gear and the same ol' plastics are producing. This AM 4 decent wallys 14-22" all on downsize 2" blue ice Bobby Garland Baby Shad 1/10 oz #2 Victory heavy wire sickle Hooksup head. Bonus a dozen mostly smaller white bass.

    Victory Jig Hooks

The Victory 10360 1/0 has become my go to in a 1/8 oz 60* head. The brittle hook eyes aren't an issue in use and I've gotten used to checking the points and resharpening after every hard snag release. Altho Gamakatsu points are more sturdy their 1/0 90* hook gaps are a bit narrow and the 10360...

    catfish on lures

Gulp! Sinking Minnows cut in half is a best bang for the buck, pack of 10 = 20 when cut. Slightly longer than the stated 5" I end up with 10 each 2-1/4" head sections and 3" tails. The longer tapered tails have an enticing shimmy, and surprisingly the double ended short stubs get bit well also...

    Jig Spinners

I don't understand? The blade position has to be such that it won't obstruct the hook point, like spinnerbaits?

    catfish on lures

T his AM in the dark got 12 and yesterday 16 chunky channels. Cut in half Gulp! Sinking Minnows continue to produce but this year an unscented Lunker City pearl 2-3/4" Swimfish dyed chartreuse is getting bit well too.

    Took the long drive north

Were you mostly casting towards shoreline? Does the fishing improve as the weather warms? Do creek mouths have sediment accretion areas? Walleye here like soft bottom areas below reservoir inlets. Did you ever try fishing in the dark, even right in front of your lodge? My best walleye...

    Took the long drive north

What is the forage base for the smallies ? Do you see baitfish schools against the shoreline? Do you fish the creek mouths flowing into the lake?

    Walleye Jigs

In 2023 upweighted rod to gifted G.Loomis 6' MF, reel to Shimano Sahara 2500, line to 15# Sufix 832, leader to 15# clear hybrid and no more stress about big fish breakoffs. Same setup this year able to cast as light as 1/11`oz jigs necessary for shallow running over snaggy rocks. Long casts not...

Continuation of discussion about lure choice

BTW this warm season big fish night jigs are primarily JiggerJohn's Boolie hook shank propeller design which is modified adding a bead stack collar to hold plastics. 1/11 oz Hooksup & 1/10 oz ball heads both unpainted with 2/0 Gami 604 hooks. Can't say the jigs get bit better with or without a...

Continuation of discussion about lure choice

The "Lead Head" 3" pearl "Shiner" continues being a multi-species attractor. This AM an unusual 20 chunk white bass, 5 smallies, 2 smaller wipers, stray cat, & a big wally. Meathead harvest has severely depleted the big predator #s. After the first 2 fish nipped off the tail paddle the stub...
