The debate is always out there......what size hook. For Illinois, I turned a little more last year towards a #1 for crappie and I like longer shank to have more options but they all have there applications. What does the group think on what is the most common hook size in your area. Would like to hear if we get crazy on gold, bronze or black hooks. I started pouring 24 years ago for walleye on Mississippi. We always did both bronze and gold but could rarely seen a difference in the bite (uncle insisted).
Below from the top starts 1, middle 2, bottom is a #4. Using kiptail on top two and bottom is duck flank with wool body (very good results last year on the duck flank wool).

For crappie here it's #4's and 2's for spring through fall and #6 for cold water. Gills a #6 or smaller. Pill heads look great. Home made? I used to put the squeeze on ball heads until I got lazy and had some custom made for me.

I'm in Northern VA and travel the mid-atlantic rivers hunting small mouth bass. For me, a hook size is a function of the manufacture's linie because their is no standardization for size.

I'm typically throwing a jig with a 1/0 - 3/0, thin diameter black nickle hook. Black nickle because they tend to rust less & I'm allergic to penicillin shots.

I tend to use smaller hooks as bigger hooks snag brush faster,
1/8 = #2 OR #4 LONG SHANK
1/16 = #4
1/32 = #6
