Small Jigging Spoons

The first one's the spoon length is 3/4 " long and weigh 1/16. The rest are 1/8 oz. and spoon is 1" long with #8 red trebles.. I painted them awhile back, recently found them so added some eyes and took a shot at dressing up some trebles, not as easy as a jig. I'm new to fishing spoons, should I tie straight to the spoon eye or add a split ring? View attachment 9 View attachment 1 View attachment 2

Looking Good, Around here, our 4+ inches of rain and 60 degree temps made me glad I made jigs today. And further motivations was the 5 dozen crawlers I picked up while walking the dog about 15 minutes ago. I could not resist they were everywhere and all trying to find drier ground.

Good looking spoons. I use them in September vertically jig them in 15 foot on the river. Catch about as many yellow belly bass ( silver bass or Bar fish ) as crappie. But they do work. Use to use them ice fishing yellow perch and Walleye. I would add a Maggot or Fish Eyeball to them and did really well in the dead of winter with them. I remember that there were some of the really old boys that would cut the head off or minnow and hook that one the treble hooks. They were hunting the big old Walleyes that would feed once a week in the middle of night. I have seen more than one 10 pounder come off the lake taken with a jigging spoon.

Nice looking paint and dressed up spoons.

I believe those are considered slab style spoons. I do use them and keep looking for smaller and smaller ones, where did you get the 1/16 ones from? I use some vertically in deeper water around docks and through the ice...... i would suggest to use a split ring and swivel as they will twist you up pretty quickly. Casting (wobble) spoons don't always need a swivel as long as you are not retrieving them too quickly.

One other note i may add is that it looks like they are upside down to me. Perhaps this is just me? I usually rig mine with the business end (hook) on the wider side so it looks like a teardrop shape with the hook at the bottom.

Very nice job on those spoons Jim. I have always used a duolock snap/quick snap as we call them for fishing slabs/spoons. Doesn't beat up the line or knot that way and enhances rather than kills the action. Hope that helps. Duolock snaps come in a range of sizes if you aren't familiar with them; also use them for cranks. Allows for quick change and more wobble out of bait.

Killer in IL for crappies threw the ice....We pound the aggressive ones from the hole and move......kinda wondering like a couple others! Where is the mold from.....I do like 1/16oz over 1/8oz.

JJ- I prefer a loop knot to tie the spoon on but use a swivel about 12 inches up. Use power pro as my main line and tie the spoon on a leader P-Line is good for this.. The duo-lock snap works also but will not swivel. How aggressive you jig spoon can lead to tangles with no swivel.

In this case use a high quality swivel. I tend to the ball bearings swivels after watching a Sampo demo at a dealers show one year.
Although expensive you wont ever lose them if use like I do. Spoons can be especially deadly on perch and walleye. Biggest crappie I ever seen caught thru the ice was by a guy using a KO wobbler 1/4 oz. He was trying for walleye and had got one of those. Almost immediately after he hauled up about a 16 inch crappie. That was the only two fish caught he caught. But the rest of us got zilched that day.

They are great Jim. Called lead slugs here, and often used to cast at pelagics when they are hunting mini bait. Like yours more than many for sale down here.

I must have missed all the replies to these and forgot about them. I bought the blanks from Lure Parts Online. I haven't tried them myself yet.
