Football Swing Jigs

I picked up a couple of Do It 2014 molds and one was this football swing jig mold. I poured some heads with the hook that it called for but the wide gap on those hooks would make tying difficult, especially attached to the football head and the flat eye. These were tied on a 30 degree bend jig hook after which I attached it to the head with a split ring. I should have wrapped it all the way to the eye but wanted to leave some room there so I could attach the hook to the head. These are my first attempt tying with these so it should get better the next time. View attachment 6View attachment 7

Not looking too bad, love the layers! Will be interested to hear how they work... still hard for me to picture in my head just how they will react and work in the water and around structure.

Those are nice lures, I can see them slide over the bottom and get a lot of attention :-)

I´ve used similar heads with open eye siwash hooks that can easyly be crimped into the eye after tying. Spares me the split ring and lessens the gap. They start from #6. Hook point rides up perfectly.

I'm getting the same mold and I can tell you I never even thought to that, excellent job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet they will flat out hammer bass, you really gave me some inspiration, I never would have thought about tying on a vertical eye hook and using the split ring to attach the tied hook to the jig head, great work indeed sir, those are incredible!!!!!

Jim, A great looking tie and overall jig!! My friend, Lee Oung in Florida pioneered his "swivel jig" like this one some years back, and has done fantastically on inshore saltwater species on Florida's Gulf coast. It's about time that a great tier, like yourself, has designed this to go so well in freshwater!

Total length on these is about 4.5 inches long, head is 3/16 oz. without the big wide gap hook. I would think that these will have movement in rivers just sitting there on the bottom.
