Tied a 1/2 dozen of these Renegades to see how the top water bite may be (when the flood water recede )?? Last year we were 16' low at Hartwell and today the lake had flood warnings so they opened the flood gates. The water hasn't been this level since 1963. So y'all guys out west keep on praying for rain.

Hook - size 10 dry
Thread - black uni 6/0
Tag - gold tinsel
Hackle, rear - brown

One of my favorite trout flies. When I fished trout I would tie them in #14 or #16. They always seem to work in North East Iowa. They do ride high and are visible guess that is one reason that they work so well. Nice job.

Thanks guys.
Andy, I use them for gills and when I have the chance they are great for trout. Like Redman, between the Renegade and Caddis flies if there is a trout around close they will hit em.

Old poops like me can't hardly do that any more . Not without a Hubble type telescope . Neat palmer , no loose threads smooth wraps . Just don't get no better than that .

Yes Toad them young bucks with nimble fingers. Sure wish that I was 30 years younger and I could still do that sort of work. Any thing smaller than #4 is a challenge. Oh well Still can tie a jig that can catch fish.

Turning 54 this year and my glasses are getting thicker each year. I can still tie down to a size 18 but it is a challenge. 12 &14 is the size I use for most trout fishing but man I have to go slow tying them. :(
