The phat tails did well last year. Got to tying a few new ones. These are all 1/4's meant more for long cast from shore...... have some 1/16's in the shroom heads that i want to get tied up for dragging/floating around from out the back of the kayak. Also shaped a few 1/8's for the river that will hopefully get tied soon.

Hey Russ, do you use a Norelco or a Remington to get that "Shaved-Stubble" look around the head?

Nice job!

May I recommend one more color scheme?

Secondary - purple

Thanks for the comments. It is spun hair technique similar to a slider fly pattern, but used the hair from the top side of deer tails instead of body/belly hair. It doesn't flare quite as much. The trim job is kind of choppy.... need to get some new scissors.

looks more like 'stacking' deer hair than spinning it...so the colors stay where you put them...

Nice jigs! :t-up:

Those ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to do some of those, the last batch of sculpins I made like that killed them. The fall on those will be a little slower but more importantly, the profile along with the jig action will mimic a dying minnow, very nice!!

wow is all I can say!! what a tying job!! I am trying to rack my brain as to how you made them look so good and hid the thread wraps. If you don't mind kinda tellin us how you did that, I would be forever gratefull. I do have freinds that fish for smallies in virginias james river above richmond, which is a world class smallie fishery as far as big smallmouth go.

they really would mimic a crawfish I think, and the crunchyness texture of the deer hair would really seal the deal. great job russ!
