Shaggy Dub Fly

After QK posted about the Senyo's Shaggy dub I ordered 4 different colors. It's not the easiest dubbing to work with but it does make a great finished fly.
I ordered some hooks from Green Caddis Outfitters last year and received a e-mail asking for pics of flies tied using their hooks. I came up with this fly and sent them a tutorial on tying it. They may use it or may not? We will see.

200R size 12 hook
uni-thread 8/0 olive
Black brass hourglass 3mm
purple hackle
purple ksytil flash
Black Senyo's Shaggy dub
Black Az simi-seal dub

That will definitely get bit! It definitely isn't the easiest stuff to work with, but you will get the hang of it. I have a few prototype ideas tied up with some black and chartreuse Shaggy Dub..... if they work next weekend, I may post a few. I have a "soft hackle", a thin flashy nymph, and a fat buggy nymph that all incorporate some of it.

That is one helluva buggy looking fly. :cool: May just have to try something like it.

If you post the tutorial here....... WE will appreciate it! ;)

Zac those look very good. A gill getter for sure :)
I tied a few with the smaller hooks also. These are tied using a #10, got to be ready for some kayak fly fishing.

Tried my ties this weekend on some VERY negative fish. The weather was 30-50*, overcast, drizzly, with some snow early Saturday. Basically terrible fly fishing weather. We had to let a fly sit still under an indicator and in their face for awhile before they were interested at all. They would just barely tap it or just slowly pull the indicator under. My fly ended up catching a few small to medium size redear. Can't wait to do some more experimenting with it.

I hate to fish a cold front and with temps that cold you did good to catch a few. I love the fly you tied and will be adding some to my fly box.:icon14:

Copper wire
Chartreuse holo tinsel (I have size medium)
Pearl tinsel size Large
Fox squirrel with chopped up Shaggy Dub for thorax

That is what I used for the ones in the picture. I am thinking a red or black one might look cool too.
