Messing around this evening & tied up a dozen of these in different colors combinations. Does anyone use jigs with a silicone skirt flared like this? If so, do they work well? This is just the second type of jig that I've tied other than marabou tails...I'm enjoying experimenting.

Those look great!!! Question for you or any one that knows the answer. That top right jig, the chenille on it(body)is it the pink with black and the black has blue sparkle in it???? if it is do you know who makes it and the name of it? maybe even know who carries it to order?? I make tons of jigs for steelhead and this year even though I switch out jigs very regularly(colors), it seems when I catch steelhead it is when I have a orange head with that chenille as body and orange tail, outstanding jig!!! Problem is the tackle store I buy it at has just gone out of bussiness and I only have a couple packs of it left. It comes in a small ziplock with no label only a price tag. I need to find where I can get it!!!!
Also are you just cutting those silicone skirts off of silicone sqids, or where or what do you make them from? I have done that but have always cut them off of a squid. Would like to find cheaper way.

goodtimesfishing, that chenille in actually called "Variegated Chenille Med. Black/FL Red" (actually looks more like pink to me) and it came from Barlow's Tackle, but it does not have any blue sparked in it. Attached is a pic of it with some similar colors you may be interested in as well as a pic of the silicone skirt tab. I will search around and see if I can find some with blue sparkle. There may be a better way as I am new to tying...Fatman seems to be very knowledgeable. I think I'm doing it the same as you as I cut the skirt tab in half @ both ends then tie the tab end to the hook(after making a thread base). Then trim the skirt to desired length.

jignforcrappie- are sure there is not a slight blue sparkke in the black lines? Mine you can only see it when you are moving it, when it is sitting still you see no blue. Sure does look like the stuff. I looked all over ebay and the internet and never thought to check barlows. Should have known. Thanks for the info.

goodtimesfishing, I see what you are talking about now...081 sure does have blue in it. I haven't tried any new age chenille yet, but may have to order some. That blue is a good accent color on my home lake as well. I'm glad you found what you were looking for.

Goodtimes - check here at Grandpa Bobs http://grandpabobscustomjigs.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=63_66&products_id=246

I think this is what you're looking for - black w/blue sparkle and it's called Blu-gill

fatman- Thanks for pointing that out, I like that one too but the one I was talking about is also at grampabobs, it is in the same spot but called bumble berry #105 and they have it by the skein. I didn't see it by the skein at barlows. Thanks!

Jigs look good to me. That is the same way i make skirt tail jigs. There are so many colors of the silicone skirt tabs that you can come up with a lot of combinations.

I like to make them flair and even tying them in around the collar to make the silicone stand out like legs is a good attractor and they get bit. Great job, really nice ties!!!

goodtimes

You're gonna find skeins at Grandpa's and Crazy Angler Tackle (if you don't see it just email him). The jigs look good and you shouldn't have any problem with the fish hitting those.

Here is a pic of the steelhead I caught today on that chenille I mention, that with orange head (1/16) and orange marabou tail. I love that chenille, something about it the steelhead just love this year!
