After seeing all those beautiful jigs that Pup has been posting with the use of leather I had to try a fly I been putting off but wanting to tie. This one is a Lofsdalen Caddis Pupa and you use a 2mm piece of leather to make the body. Should have tied my first one with a bigger hook but I didn't.... It isn't a top of the line tied fly but it is my first and it is an interesting fly to tie. If I had not seen all those leather jigs...I blame it on Pup :)

Hook- TMC2457 size 12
Thread- olive 70 denier
Gills- light olive Ostrich herl
Body- black leather cut to 2mm
Under body- black SLF dubbing
Legs- yellow olive CDC
Collar- black hen saddle

# of my hair lost= lots!

Thanks guys. With my big fingers I have some trying times tying the small flies. Got to spend the better part of the day at the bench doing a few different tyes and playing with some powder paint, enjoyable day.

Is a very cool fly - TMC hook too! The back side view of what that would look like swimming away sells it.

The ostrich herl...... is it woven in or over laid down the body?

Thanks everyone for your kind commits.
Atticafish, the herl has to be worked into the leather as you work up the hook. You tie in two pieces of herl and try to keep it lined up on each side of the hook. You lay down a layer of dubbing on the shank and work the leather and herl over the dubbing. If tied right you will see a little dubbing coming through the wraps between the leather.

How cool is this fly? Nice tie SH. :icon14: :icon14:

I'll gladly take the blame for fine-looking ties like this anytime. ;)
