Finally got to tie with the squirrel zonkers and tied 4 of the Barr's Slumpbuster. Got to say I do like working with the squirrel as they made some nice looking flies. I used hourglass eyes in place of the cone heads that are used for this fly. Here are the pics of the two flies. One tied in crawdad orange and one tied in sculpin olive. Also a pic of the olive fly before the collar was tied in so you can see what the body looks like.

Hook- x2 long nymph size 10
eye- copper 1/50 hourglass
thread- 6/0 tobacco (crawdad) and 6/0 olive (olive
body- gold tinsel
rib- copper wire
wing- crawdad orange and sculpin olive squirrel zonker strips
collar-crawdad and olive zonker strips wrapped like hackle

I think I saw a much bigger version of the last pick sticking up on a kids head at the mall.

I like them. I've used canadian pine squirrel zonker strips to make something similar on a jig. Those squirrel zonkers hair seem longer. Nice job, something will eat that for sure.

JJ the squirrel is the longer hair by Wapsi. It is the zonkers I ordered from Charlie's Fly Box a few weeks ago. The small hook makes it look longer than it is. I'm guessing the hair is maybe 3/8'' long.

OK made it to the lake today. Fished the Slumpbuster and wow that fly looks great in the water. Caught a good bass with it using a 5 lb flyrod and with 2 lb tippet. Man that was fun. Got a lot of hits with it but the fish were biting all hair and not the hook so I broke out the top water poppers and wore em out...:icon14:
Lots of small fish ( guess 40-50) but was able to bring home a good mess.
