Before I started using different kinds of flash in my duck jigs I used to add a little hackle in the throat area for color and contrast. The original duck jig I tied was on a 1/32 nickle plated head with red thread and mallard flank and crappie and gills literally ate the feathers off until there wasn't any left. A few days ago the topic came up about old favorite jig colors and got me thinking about my old favorites. The head style is not the same on these as the originals but I tied some of these up to stock up a box. The first three pictures are 1/16 chub heads and the last is a 1/12 "phatboy".

Love the color combos on those ducks. You are an artist Jim! I've given up with tying the duck feathers. The curvature throws me off.

View attachment 6When I got up this morning it was raining so I tied up a few original ducks as well as the beginning flash ducks ,phase 2. I plan on going back to basics and actually fish these soon. The originals are on the left,1/32 nickle plated head,70 ultra thread and mallard flank. I use the 70 mostly on these so I don't build up the thread too much at the head.

Wait a minute! As a fly and jig tyer and fisher I value them both equally. I wouldn't hesitate to use quality feathers on jigs. Flies are not inherently superior to jigs. If I had to choose between a fly and a small jig. I would definitely opt for the jig based on my fishing experiences with both.
God Bless,

Most of the guys here and on other boards that know me, have kinda kept my spirits up over almost two years now that I havn't been able to fish or hunt or make tackle.

About the only thing I've been able to do is drive my other half UP THE WALL buying stuff and tradeing stuff.

Gotta say My Bad as the folks that do know understood where I was coming from with the remark but newer people to the board don't.
