Ron Don inspired me with his chickens so since a customer asked for some, I thought I'd tie him some funky ones.

This is for Lost Pole;
Here's what I was talking about when tying neck hackle. After you tie on your thread base, tie on one V, then another on top of it.

Then tie your hackle feather tip on top of that.

After applying your chenille, you can twist it to get your tail straight.

Schweeet. Those are puuurty. You tying the tips of the saddles in at the tail for the Palmer?
Thanks much for the V steps. I thought they were tied in on the sides without the tip at all. That'll def open the door on color combos. One more question, are they about 1/2"?
Thx bro.

Nice job Scott, i can never get the V's and the tip on top of them to look good, so i usually tie in two hackle tips.... I'll have to keep playing with this method

Thanks guys. Adam, I don't know what you are asking about the 1/2 inch. The stems on the Vs are around 1/4 in long. You need to find a wide enough neck hackle feather to have your Vs big enough. The tip of the neck hackle feather is cut around 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 in long. They are all tied in on the hook shank just behind the head. When palmering the body, I'll tie my saddle hackle from right behind the head, back to where my chenille will end. Then I'll tie in my chenille and wrap it back to the head. After I tie my chenille and cut it, I'll wrap the saddle hackle back to the head, tie it off and cut it. Man, I'm tired now, time for another malt beverage. Lol
