Sat down at the vise tonight for the first time in a long long time. It sure felt good.   Felt like i did more planning and searching for materials than tying, but did finally wrap one up.  This is a 1/8th oz tin/bis head tied with a #2 Mustad 3366 hook as a stinger.  I used an 'Arkie Spinner Jig' for the wire arm and also to attach the teaser/stinger.  Clipped it off and used the business end for the spinner attachment and the clip end to add on the teaser/stinger.  Took some crude pics on my phone.  Hopefully they show enough to get the general idea.

Really nice looking baits. I've been tying quite a few articulated baits with stinger hooks this past year. Haven't really used them but it seems when I am tying the front section I stick myself with the back so stingers seem to work on me.

My thumb was actually bleeding at one point, the stinger got me too when i was trying to smooth down the craft fur once. The way it is on with the split ring, i could have actually taken it off to tie the jig but it seemed to stay out of the way using the material spring clip. Not had the chance to see how it spins yet and the weather this weekend (mainly the wind) is not going to cooperate for a late night trip.

Good idea using that arkie jig! Hope it won´t tangle, I would bring a wire cutter to the water or cut off the front hook straight away.

In case the trailer catches the line too often, try engulfing it in a bunch of bucktail as ground layer.

This is nifty. Now, I'd like to tie a long-armed safety-pin spinner to a 1/8 or even a 1/16-ounce jig to produce a light spinnerbait (blade over barb).

Nice idea AF! :)

Got out last night to try out the new jig.  Not a complete failure, but did not perform as well as i hoped.  The trailer hook only got fouled up once, and that was looped up all the way around the line.... you called it Bucho.  The bigger problem was with the soft craft hair getting down into the swivel and not letting it spin freely.  Think i either need to simply switch up to bucktail -or- bend out the spinner arm so it is more vertical.  I think the solution will be to go to the stiffer bucktail.  I really don't need all the tail movement from the softer craft hair casting at night, the spinner will get their attention.

It was a cold 35° windy windy night.  Fished from 9:00-11:00 and on the bank exposed to the wind.  At least it was warm enough to not freeze up my guides.  No bites at all on my other hair jigs or this spinner jig, but at least did not come home empty handed.  Caught a nice fat 23" female full of eggs, 2 other smaller walleye and a couple of decent bass.  I tried the hair jigs along with 2 different rapala stickbaits but only caught fish on a 4" Kalins swimbait rigged on an 1/8th oz head.  Fun night!  Going to be up at my parents house for Thanksgiving and thinking i am going to throw my gear in the car and try a Lake Erie breakwall after eating.

toadfrog - Thanks for the suggestion, i will look around for some.

Hawnjigs - 35° and windy is not bad when wearing my Arctic Armor ice fishing bibs and coat. I was nice and toasty but the cold wind had my eyes tearing up. The AA bibs and coat even have some buoyancy if i would ever go in. Not really sure why the swimbaits work so well on this particular reservoir. They have outfished everything else in my arsenal for the last couple years. They are the big 4" or 5" ribbed variety with a thin tail section and big paddle tail, Kalins and Kietech are the favorites. They thump and roll side to side at a very slow speed. I've always assumed the smaller hair jigs would work great because the primary food source here is small bluegill and bass. Stomach contents will have a couple of 2" to 2.5" fish. Not like up on Erie where they feast on 4"-5" shad. I'm convinced the tail action at such slow speeds is what seals the deal. That is why i think the spinners could have great potential. I am planning on giving Erie a shot this weekend.

Wire form numbers are HS34 @ Barlows. Do your hair jigs work well during the day or do the paddle tails still work better? Maybe they are just being attracted to the vibration more. Would think a Colorado blade would do that.

Correction on part no. HM34 . I get them from lure parts online or Barlowes.

duffy - I have only caught 1 (it was a saugeye) during daylight all year. That one was actually caught on a hair jig, but it was a small 1/24 jig i was casting for crappie. I talk to a lot of people who fish this reservoir from boats and try to target walleye. They can go all day with no fish. As clear as the water is, they may only feed at dusk and through the night. In the low light time, i think that vibration and bigger profile bait help them locate it.
