I tied these to try and catch some of our Spotted Bass here on Lake Gaston. I would like to know what everyone thinks, good or bad.

Looks Tasty! That front umbrella should slow the fall a bit and the tails should flow good when hopping it. Never fished spotted bass, are they as aggressive as LM and SM bass and like the same colors?

Lake Gaston was exclusively a LMB lake until a few years ago. No one knows how the spots got introduced into the lake, at least no one that is talking about it. In my opinion they are much more aggressive than the largemouths. It is hard to catch largemouths now in the deeper portions of the lake where the spots seem to be prevalent. Even though they are generally smaller, I love fishing for them. We are starting to catch some in the 3 1/2 - 4 pound range now.

I like the forward/umbrella tie. Looks like round for the skirt and flat for the trailer. I am a fan of both, each having their own attributes/action qualities when worked. I'd bet they catch a few smallies too. I'll have to do some research but I don't think we have any spotted bass in Oregon. Good luck...won't need much with those.

I tied them with medium round rubber for the skirt and silicone for the color accent / trailer.

So their colored like a LM bass but have the mouth like a SM eh? Reminds me of one years ago that they called a medium mouth bass. Claims were that it was so aggressive that nothing else would or could live in the same lake with them.

Great looking jigs. I tie and use that style a lot for both LMB & SMB, don't have the spots around here. Black and blue will bring a lot of fish to your hand.

Spots have a mouth that is midway in size between a Smallmouth and Largemouth. They also have a patch of teeth on their tongue that is not present in the others. they are marked similarly to a Largemouth, but have more blotches above the lateral line and small individual spots below.

If they fight like a smallie I bet they would be fun to catch. I see the "medium mouth"
